Hi, I'm looking for a fast ultra wide angle lens to pair with the 24-105mm f4. For use with travel, land/cityscape and astrophotography. Low weight and/or smaller size is a plus. Also, filter threading is a plus. I'm not sure why many of the wide primes don't seem to accept standard filters? So far the Laowa 15mm f2 and Zeiss Batis 18mm f2.8 are high on my list. Does anyone have experience with either of these to compare?  I've also looked into the Tokina FiRIN 20mm f/2 with autofocus. But...

I am trying out a Sony aR7iii before buying. I am frustrated by one big issue for me. Since I do landscape, I want control over focus. I can see no way in the Sony manual for a way to reset the focusing distance from meters to feet. Is this not possible? Also, I'd like to be able to see the depth of field scale in the viewfinder. I'm using a Zeiss Batis 18mm lens, and there I see you can set the lens to feet, and it also shows a depth of field scale. But with my eye to the viewfinder, and...

Hey guys, I am looking for a wide angle lens and have narrowed down to these 2: Sigma 14mm f1.8 Art Batis 18mm f2.8 For sigma I'll use it with metabones iv adapter but my concern is vignetting and lack of sharpness around corners using an adapter? does this lens suffer from that? But its 1.8 and that is awesome. Batis would be native and its also very light and could be used on a gimbal for video work too but its 2.8. So how do these 2 lenses compare in terms of sharpness, contrast and...

Hey guys! Want to start by thanking any nice folks here who may share their thoughts on my question. I came across a listing on a local online classified forum in HK where someone is selling a used Batis 18mm f2.8 without warranty (grey market import), so my question is: 1) I currently own the 1635Z. As someone who really is a pixel peeper on landscape shots, the quality of this zeiss lens is really not very good especially from the 30-35mm side even stopped down. With the increased sharpness...

I heard that some zeiss lenses are not created and manufactured from zeiss at all such as batis 18mm, FE 55mm 1.8, and more. So the question is which lenses are real zeiss lenses that zeiss actually create and manufacture lenses from Germany or their own facility?

Does this combination work?   My a7 is getting a bit wobbly and while I know there's some controversy about replacing the original mount, I bought the camera used and decided to order the replacement mount.  I've read that the Loxia 21mm won't focus to infinity with the Tough E-Mount LT, but couldn't find anything about the Batis 18mm on this mount.  Replies appreciated.

I will be spending some time in the American national parks this summer. (Bryce, Zion, etc., etc.) I have the FE 16-35 and while I have gotten many a fine image with that lens I have to say that it does not have the immediacy, if you will,  of my Batis lenses. No surprise there; they are great Zeiss primes. My question - Is the 18 every bit as good as the 25 with regard to overal "IQ"? If it is I am tempted to pick one up and leave the zoom at home. Incidently - I have looked at hundreds of...

Hi guys I took my Batis 18mm out on field today to take some shots of a distant mountain with trees etc etc. I focused to infinity and other various f stops. I shot at 1/320 of a second. When I zoom into the edges there is some blur. Could someone please give me some advice on how to test this lens being an 18mm. Should I shoot at large brick wall and then see if its sharp in the edges? How far from the wall should the lens be? Im not quite sure on how to test a wide lens. Thanks.

Is There A Native Fisheye/Ultra Wide AF Lens for Sony A7 Series in the Pipeline?Wondering if there are any rumors of a native, AF, very wide angle/fisheye lens coming for the A7 series cameras (specifically the A7Rii)?I have the Batis 18mm but would welcome something that renders as well, but is wider. If there are no rumors of a native lens, does anyone have a recommendation for a super wide angle/fisheye lens with autofocus that compares to the Batis (which IMHO is a winner!)?Thank you.

Playing with my shiny sharp 18mm lens on my A7R2, I was testing the amount of star trailing vs exposure time to find a good compromise for my next star gazing trip. What I expected, given some previous research, was best results to be around 5s to 8s @ISO 640. What I found instead was a huge discrepancy between shots >= 4 seconds and those <= 3.2s. It looks suspiciously like the infamous "star eater" algorithm, but I expected that to happen with bulb mode (12 bit) or serial shots. Instead I...
