I bought this lens for portraiture and general telephoto use on my Leica M9. It is very much a classic optical design, sharp at the centre (even wide open) but softer towards the edges. Used wide open, it makes lovely portraits with buttery smooth background bokeh, however it can be too sharp for use with subjects who have less than perfect skin. Care should be taken when focusing the lens wide open because of the very limited depth of field.
