This is a great lens. One of my favorite. I cannot compare to any other true macro lens because it is the only one i have ever owned. I love the colors, the bokeh, the sharpness, the size and weight, the large focussing ring, the MFD allowing high magnification (1:1) without too much disturbing the subjects, the focal... It has always been delivering great proxi (flowers and small animals) and macro (insects) shots. But I have also been using it for MF wildlife shots with very good results. ...

Excellent lens for macro work, sometimes AF was little tricky and little slow, excellent in manual focus. Amazing bokeh, probably one of the best. not to heavy, well balanced. Wish tamron would make an update to this excellent lens.

Excellent telephoto & macro lens. Pretty good speed (f/3.5), therefore very shallow DOF full open. Good for isolating objects in tele shots. For macro DOF is then often too shollow, so you will have to reduce aperture very much. For macro shots in nature a good flash should help to avoid motion blur. Fo first testr shots with my Sony A700 look into my gallery (goetz48).
