Being a Tamron 28-75 owner, I bought this new 17-28 as soon as it reached the stores. I will not hide the fact I would have much preferred the classic 16-35/24-70 combo in focal lenght, but considering the price/quality ratio and the weight of these two lenses, I really can't complain. As far as I can tell, the 17-28 has even better quality than its older brother. At f/2.8 the sharpness is excellent on the center of the frame and very very good on the corners. This focal length isn't in my preferred range so I was willing to compromise somewhat. Overall, I am glad I did, though I would have loved this lens to reach down to 24mm FL at which I take the majority of my shots. Generally I use the Sony 16-35 for this - 24mm being one of its strengths, while 35 is clearly not. So, at 28mm + the Tamron fills a useful role. Compared to the Sony at for me.
