I'm contemplating a second body to my a99. Main reason is that I would like a cheap UWA for landscapes and the SAL1635z is a bit beyond what I'm willing to pay.  I have enlightened myself by downloading and peeping on test images from the Imaging Resource comparometer. When I check at 100% I find that the a58 is not bettered (what I can see) by either of the a99, Nikon D3400, D5600 or Canon T6i. Of course the a99ii, A9 and later a7's are better but again, beyond my budget. What is the opinion...

I have a studio flash system that can be triggered with a flash. Some cameras can set the flash manually. Every Nikon slr I have tried from the cheap old D40 can do this, Some Canons like the Canon 60D, but not the beginner ones, and my old Minolta 7Hi can also set the flash manually. I then typically set the flash to 1/32 or 1/64 or 1/124 so that it would trigger the studio flashes without lighting up the person. In the menu of these cameras you will find three options for flash: ADI, TTL...

Ok, I'm a Sony user, with a few Casio compact thrown in. Now, I'm thinking to get a lightweight bridge camera, travel zoom, or what to call it. I'm tired of lugging lot of gear so APS-C it is. At the same time I would like to purchase a UWA for my a99. That is, until I checked the price of the Zeiss 16-35, even used, the prices are....impressive. As are most Sony lenses, especially E-mount, and third party is not supporting a lot. So I'm thinking of maybe leaving Sony for Nikon but first I...

Hi, My Minolta 70-200G SSM (similar to the 1st gen Sony version) somehow can't autofocus below 3m on the A99. But no problems on manual focus. I know about the focus limiter selector on the lens and have it on full. The auto-focusing otherwise is smooth (from 3m to infinity) and fast. No funny sounds. I tried everything, including on/off, remove/reattach lens, clean connectors, changing the focus limiter selector etc. The focus range selector on the A99 is also on full. I suspect a faulty...

I posted the following on the full-frame forum: I currently own the following A-mount gear: A700, SSM/SAM - Sony 70-200G, Sony 70-300G, Sony 35/1.8, Sony 18-55, Sony 55-200 and some screw drive stuff (Sony 11-18, Minolta 28-75/2.8, Minolta 70-210/4, Minolta 50/1.7, Minolta 18-70), HLV-56 flash. I also own the following E-mount gear: A6000, Sony 16-50, Sony 10-18/4, Sony 35/1.8 and LEA3 adapter. I'm considering getting a full-frame camera (have a grand child on the way) so I'd like some...

Hi, everyone!  I really would like to upgrade to a Sony full frame camera (right now I shoot with a Sony a57). I found a used Sony a99 for a good price, but the problem is that none of my lenses are compatible with full frame sensors. I have also found a Sony 50mm 1.4 for a good price, and intend to buy that with camera. However, I am aware of the age of both the camera and the lens, and was wondering if it is worth paying almost $1,200 for both. Any opinions and thoughts would be much...

I'm considering getting a full-frame camera (have a grand child on the way) so I'd like some advice on what to get. Should I get an A99 or an...

Hello everyone.  I'm new to this site but not photography.  I've done a lot of searching so far but haven't found the thread that convinces me yet so I'm sorry if I'm rehashing stuff that has been addressed.  I am a casual shooter for the past 15 years.  I started with a Minolta Maxxum 7 in 2002 and then transitioned to a Maxxum 7D when digital began to take over.  In 2012, I wanted to update my capabilities and picked up a Sony Alpha 700.  Seems I've been following along the lines of...
