I have several old Minolta MD lenses that I would like to use on my Sony DSLR cameras. I picked up a Minolta M-A 2x converter S for a good price for doing this. My question is this. What is my effective focal length when using the adapter on a Sony a55 and a Sony a850? For example. If I use a Minolta MD 135mm lens on these cameras, what is my effective focal length? a850 - 135mm x 2 = 270mm a55 - 135mm x 2 = 270mm plus the crop factor of 1.5 giving 405mmAm I correct in assuming the above is...
Hello. I may have to upgrade from my wonderful but oldish A55, which is playing up. I'll like to keep the 16-80 Zeiss lens so probably would not want a full framer at this time. I also like the compactness and lightness of the A55 and an on-board flash. I shoot 'everything' really. Any Sony recommendations from anyone? Thank you. PS are you still going well Canadian Club? I hope so old timer!
HI, This is my first post here, but have read some threads here for a little while I'm looking into getting a lens for wildlife and one for landscape photography.. Hopefully for under $1000 each if possible or decent ones at a reasonable price. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Jeanette
I was playing around with my old film cameras the other day, and when I picked up my Ricoh GR1s I started to remember how much fun I used to have with a really high quality, truly pocketable compact camera. Unfortunately, research into the current GR2 showed me that it's somewhat dated, and Ricoh are being somewhat cagey about when a replacement is due. So I became very interested in the X70, but am somewhat disturbed by the almost universally negative reviews it seems to get for its movie...
Got a brother in law interested in photography. His wife has the Sony A55, I have the A77, my mom has the A33. None of us are experts. We do have a lot of lenses, Minolta and Tamron (nothing new). I need to get a camera for my brother in law that is relatively inexpensive, compared to the Sony's the rest of the family has, and can make use of our existing lens repertoire. Any ideas? No more than $400, please. Thanks --Richard Lane
I was looking into getting an all-in-one bridge cam with 1" sensor next to my A77II for vacations etc. But I stil have my A55 lying around, which I was thinking of selling. I also still have a Tamron 18-270mm f3.5-6.3 PZD, which I do not use much anymore on the A77II; I prefer the SAL1680Z as a walkaround lens. Would the A55 + Tamron be a good alternative to e.g. A RX100 series cam, the Panasonic FX1000 or Panasonic FX2500? I checked the weight and size and it is similar: A55 + Tamron : 950...
Spent the last hour or 3 looking at various flash adapters to see if I can use a modern standard shoe speed lite with TTL and ADI support for my A55. Must say I am somewhat overcome by the variety and the and specs available. Any one have real world experience and recommendations? --https://www.flickr.com/photos/75805367@N02/
My new A58 won't trigger my 80s studio flash- apparently the A58 hotshoe resistance is about 150 ohms compared with about 25 for my Canon A1. My recently-dead A55 fired it with no problems. Is there a workaround ( a circuit I could build, perhaps) that doesn't involve spending money I don't have?
