So the time has come to start looking for a new full frame. I was not particularly ever considering an upgrade for a while, especially since Sony was going E-mount the whole way for years. Eventually I will need to switch, I told to myself, but then comes the A99 II which blew me away and surprised me as a new A-mount full frame that took care of a lot of concerns. I have an A850 that has served me well over the years, and a healthy collection of great glass (Sony 85mm 1.4 ZA, 135mm 1.8 ZA,...

Hi, I have just aquired a sony A85o and plan to use it on old sigma 500mm f4,5 apo from the 1980's minolta af fit. I noticed that there is no focus limiter on this lens ... is there any feature inside to Sony A850 that limits focus between certain ranges, making it able to focus quicker, like on my old nikkor 80-200mm f2.8 af?. Also, the lens focuses and works ok on camera ok in single shot mode, but when i turn it to continous mode, even though it is set to fire the shutter only when the...
I have several old Minolta MD lenses that I would like to use on my Sony DSLR cameras. I picked up a Minolta M-A 2x converter S for a good price for doing this. My question is this. What is my effective focal length when using the adapter on a Sony a55 and a Sony a850? For example. If I use a Minolta MD 135mm lens on these cameras, what is my effective focal length? a850 - 135mm x 2 = 270mm a55 - 135mm x 2 = 270mm plus the crop factor of 1.5 giving 405mmAm I correct in assuming the above is...
I've recently bought a used a850. It's my first full fram camera and I have a lot to learn. I'm interested in using it for family and newborn photography as I have a huge family. I already have a 50 mm lens and am interested in investing in more lenses. What would you suggest for family and newborn photography? Third party lenses would definitely be considered.
Interested in one of these to supersede the OVF APS-C Sonys I used. (Those trying to persuade me to mirrorless need not apply). I am interested in the full frame as a travel camera with 28-70 f2.8 & 50mm f1.7. No wildlife or sports necessary. Specs of these two are quite good considering they are 6 or 7 years old. There seem to be a few highly priced a900 listings which just sit there unsold. a850 a bit rarer. Does anyone know the actual selling price right now? I looked at test images and...
I’ve preordered 7r2 and have some budget saved for the lenses. I have a fairly even proportion of shots indoor and outdoor, mostly people/family and some occasional landscapes. I do like to travel and would prefer some zoom versatility. I lived for a while with a850 and 90% of my shots were with 24-70z. My dream lens would be fast and small 24 to 140 =). Here are the list of lenses that I currently have: 1. SAL2470Z (love the lens, but would prefer native FE mount for weight + I don’t have an...

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a used A850 and am having difficulties getting consistent results when testing my lenses. Don't know if it's my technique, inconsistent lenses, or inconsistent camera. Examples of my problems include having the apparent sharpest photo being at different points of my test range at a given focal length and aperture. Example: On a Tokina 28-70 ATX f/2.8 lens I first ran a test at 28mm @ f/4 from +15 to -15 in 3 step increments, then I narrowed the test down to...
I'm looking for purchase recommendations here. I am a furniture maker and need a camera to take quality shots of my pieces but this is going to be my all in one camera so I'm thinking I'd take it back packing occasionally and I generally enjoy photography as a hobby so it would definitely get more use outside my main goal of product shots, but that is the reason I am willing to drop a wad of hard earned cash on a better camera. Its hard to sell a beautiful product on line without beautiful...
I"m thinking about downgrading from my A7r and I'll be using a 14mm rokinon to do architectural and interior photography. I have an A850 and an A3000, and I'm wondering which you guys think would be best suited to the task -- the A3000 has live view, but I'd have to use a lens turbo II (I'd rather not pay a bunch for a speed booster), whereas the A850 does not, but is natively full frame (also, does not look or feel like a toy, which for me is an added bonus). The A850 can bracket w/ flash,...
