Sony Xperia Z Overview
The Xperia Z follows the 2013 trend towards larger and higher resolution screens on smartphones and comes with a 5-inch 1080 display. From an imaging point of view the 13MP camera with Exmor RS for mobile image processing and HDR video sounds very promising but the rest of the specsheet reads well too. The device is powered by a Snapdragon™ S4 Pro quad-core processor and runs Android 4.1. NFC technology allows for wireless sharing of content with compatible devices including, speakers, headphones and TVs. The very high dust and water resistance (IP55 & IP57) is unusual for high-end smartphones.

The Sony Xperia Z is a powerful Android phone with a razor-sharp full HD screen. Its full-featured native camera app offers a lot of flexibility but could stand some refinement. The 13MP photos it captures are generally satisfying at web and screen resolutions, but closer examination reveals image quality that lags the best, with a lack of fine detail even in good light. A thin, hard-edged design and lack of a dedicated camera button make for unsatisfying photographic ergonomics. The Xperia Z is a very capable phone, but ardent mobile photographers may be better served by other options.
