Sony FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS User Reviews

Telephoto zoom lens | Sony FE | SEL70200G

I have owned the Canon 70-200 F4, the Canon 70-200 F2.8 and now the Sony 70-200 f4.   The Canon's looked good no matter the focal length or aperture, but the Sony 70-200 f4 seems to fall apart at 200mm.   At F4 @ 200mm, the edges of the frame are mush and really unrecognizable, almost like adding a frost gel to your images.  However if you switch to F5.6 or zoom out, the edges are great again. As a hobbyist, I can't really justify purchasing the Sony 70-200 F2.8 and I am not sure if I want to ...

A bit of background: I moved from Canon (5DS) to Sony (a7R III) for various reasons I won't detail here, so my comparison basis will mostly be from Canon's counterpart. The 70-200 f4: I bought it second hand in pristine condition for less than half the price. It's a very sharp lens (close to the Sony 90mm macro), incredibly fast, even on an old a7r and completely silent! Making it a prime choice for video. I have used the famous Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS USM L II on a 5ds, and the Sony is ...

Quality built, excellent lens, sharp, fast and accurate focus trough all aperture. Great bokeh and object isolation. The incredible OSS allowing me to take shots handheld slow as 1/30sec. Use it on the A6300 body, from portrait to landscape. Iā€™m very-very happy with it! :) UBL

As a portrait and concert photographer, this FE lens truly surprised me not only in build quality but in IQ as well. I have expressed my ...

I've been after this lens for a long time, but managed to get one second hand for a good price. This is the first lens I pick up when photographing my grandkids at f4 it's sharp and leaves a good bokeh Isolating my horrors. Would I recommend it hell yes this gets šŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸ

Even after reading multiple reviews about how this lens was "soft" at f/4 or not sharp enough at f/4 or how f/4 was not a bright enough aperture to provide good background blur or subject separation, I ordered and received one of them last week.  Today I had my first chance to use this lens outdoors for something other than a test shot when a couple of Great Horned Owls stopped by.  The day was a bit overcast, but still plenty of light. The first photo was taken on a Sony A7R at 200mm f/4 at ...
