This lens has focus breathing. This means that if you intend to run the focus stacking app on an A7RII, you're out of luck: as the app changes focus, the zoom level also changes. Focus breathing makes a macro lens near-useless, for me, at least. I wish I knew about this before buying this. Now I end up doing my stacked macro shots on a non-macro lens that doesn't have focus breathing. Do not buy if you intend to do focus stacking.

This lens is just plain amazing I won’t be getting any of the 85’s as it so close of a focus and I found that I am not a 70-200 user so my portrait lens is just this one Macro capabilities is amazing plus it has a 1:1 magnification ratio so in addition to all of that... this lens is corner to corner sharp... simply in love

I just received this used lens which I found on Ebay for about $750.00 last Saturday and I am happy with it. This is my first and only dedicated macro lens. Previously I have used extension tubes primarily on my Sony5018 but also on my 55-210 The lens is fairly long and wide but not so heavy that I had problems carrying it or holding my a6000 by the cameras smallish grip. It is also easy to give additional support by holding the lens barrel. My favorite feature was the focus ring push pull to ...

I bought this just a week before reviewing this, so I might not get used to this lense but I can see some flaws. The optic is so sharp on my A6300. The contrast and colour are outstanding. This is my first and only impressive Sony G lense I have owned. However, the focus is some sort of poor. In standard mode, it is quick enough to shoot good portraits. Bokeh is very nice and clean. Personally, I really hate onion bokeh from the CZ 55/1.8 for example. The AF does not work so well as I was ...

This lens is optically excellent. I've removed 1/2 star since its AF speed is not fast and in some cases it just gives up. I end up using manual-focus half the time for macro work. I especially like the push-pull auto-manual switch on the lens barrel. Nice touch for a macro lens.

Outstanding color, contrast, and sharpness. Large and heavy, but the pro. built quality, the great (0.29m) 1-1 working distance and fantastic OSS, makes it to one of the “easy to working with”  for macro or portrait choices. UBL

I did have them all, Canon, Nikon, and Zeiss ... But, T he Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 G OSS Macro is an exception. At least in image quality department and that is always in my book priory. This lens feels good, the focusing is extremely accurate and overall, working with the lens is a pleasure. I am using this lens on A7R and A7RII and also on my A6000 . The best result I am getting is in my studio on both A7r's with Elinchrom strobes. Processing images in CaptureOne v9.x is a delightful pleasure ...

Hard to fault this lens, a great macro and long prime.

I've been doing a lot of online store listing shots with legacy macros. My old Leitz 60mm and 100mm lenses are lovely, but I had a feeling the modern dedicated lens might benefit the shooting flow. And I was right. Not just shooting, though - the greater contrast, flare resistance and more vivid colors is making post processing noticeably easier. I really like the BOKEH and out of focus transition with this lens. One user felt the effect to be somewhat jarring, as if someone did a background ...

Else where, a user complained about the function of the manual-focus refinement function:  "Then it auto magnifies, as if this helps anything?" This auto-magnification is a CAMERA menu setting: MENU -> Cogwheel -> 1 -> MF Assist -> OFF to get rid of the annoying auto-magnification. This feature is useful doing still life with a tripod, not otherwise, and users should turn it off by default. (This menu item's usefulness seems, to me, not obvious from the title -- Auto-Mag would be preferable ...
