Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS User Reviews

This lens is sharp, very fast and with the A9 very accurate.  However, until I bought the 200-600 I was not happy with Sony colours, the 200-600 changed that dramatically. Who knew.. I have been all Canon for the past 15 years and new to Sony (since November)

Happy New Year’s everybody! I sure love cameras and lenses, but I also feel that if I am going to carry a heavy load of equipment, it better be worth it. If you have a Sony FF camera and need 400mm, 560mm or even 800mm, then this lens is the only native game in town and there is no point in reading this review. Just buy the 100-400 GM. But some of you, like me, don't really "need" it, but you do want the extra reach to capture wildlife sometimes, to catch the expression of a player on the ...

This is an amazing birding lens. I can use it hand held with no problem due to the IS.

I have had this lens since December 2017.  I have used it first on the A7S2 and more recently on the A73.  And I have used it with and with the Sony 2x converter.  I shoot mostly wildlife video on my own and often in remote areas.  I really like the lens BUT the OSS/IBIS does NOT work for video when mounted on a tripod.  I have tested several different Sony 100-400 GM lenses on various Sony bodies and the result is the same.  I am aware what the manual says and I have had long discussions ...

I have a Sony SAL 70-400 G2. I bought it expecting to use it with my Sony NEX7 with image stabilization. I haven't been able to get Steady State (Sony's term for IS) to work. I then bought a Sony A58. Didn't help. Can anyone suggest a body that will work? I want to use it primarily for birding. Additionally, any nominations for a camera to replace what I have would be appreciated. I've thought about the Nikon P900 long and hard. Not quite sharp enough.

This is a really - really sharp lens and I have gotten some great shots with it with my A7R2 and A6500. There are just a few minuses 1. The adjuster for zoom tightness still allows for zoom creep on carry - not as good as the Canon 100-400 Mk II where you can virtually lock it down. This is a real annoyance at times and I wish there was a fix for this. 2. The image stabilization in the lens in combination with the A7R2 and A6500 - seems to be a little less effective as on the Canon 100-400 ...

Fast and super sharp on my A9. Nothing is safe... flying birds, jumping animals, moving vehicles ... you name it. Images are tack sharp at all apertures and mm.

I have only had the lens for 2 weeks but it is amazing. Using it on A7rii. First outing at a vintage Air Show, and later photographing RC Model Aircraft in flight. I am amazed how quick it focuses, pin sharp images, picks up moving subjects very quickly even on my camera body hand held. The combination weight is ok. Managed 4 hours of flight display ok. The operation is very smooth and feels very well constructed. Highly recommend, worth paying for quality even if it was more than I wanted to ...

This will be a quick review because my experience is limited. I have been using this lens for a week now on my Sony a7R2, shooting Gold Finches, Blue Jays, White-Breasted Nuthatches and other garden birds, always using a tripod and gimbal. WHAT I HAVEN'T TRIED YET: I haven't shot landscapes yet, and have tried nothing freehand, nor have I tried A-B comparisons with my Tamron 150-600 G2 for Sony A-Mount using the LEA3 and LEA4 converters. I also haven't done an A-B with my Sony FE 70-300mm. ...
