The Sony DT 16-105mm F3.5-5.6 is a standard zoom lens for Sony's APS-C format SLT cameras that covers an equivalent focal length range of 24-157mm. An ideal lens for travelling and everyday photography, the 16-105mm doesn't quite match the costlier DT 16-80mm F3.5-4.5 ZA Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T*, but it does have the advantage of more 'reach' at the telephoto end of its zoom. Build quality is very similar, though, which is important only because both lenses are among the best-constructed of their type.

This is a very good lens for Alpha users looking to upgrade over their kit zoom. The versatility of the focal length range goes a long way towards making up for the inevitable optical compromises, and as such the lens easily earns our recommendation.
Good for: Alpha users looking for a flexible, lightweight all-around lens.
Not so good for: Those who won't accept softness and chromatic aberration.
