Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10

Announced Oct 16, 2013 •
20 megapixels | 3 screen | 24 – 200 mm (8.3×)

The Sony RX10 was a great idea from the get-go. A rugged video/still hybrid with a sharp, bright and versatile lens. Unfortunately, it doesn't deliver on a series of key points. The build quality is only so-so, with a screen that eventually broke, and an aperture switch that is far from smooth. It is weather-sealed though, but Sonys weathersealing is generally not to be trusted. Performance is also lacklustre. The lens is pretty sharp and the sensor is good, but it is let down a slow ...

the only thing i don't like is not being able to rotate the screen and turn it to the camera to protect it and stop your sweaty face smearing all over it

This is a quick review that will get right to the point - this camera takes great photos. I continue to be amazed at the results. The camera body itself is surprisingly compact although reviews call it 'large.' In fact it's very small considering the 24-200 2.8 zoom. Everything about using the camera oozes quality. It feels very well made throughout. The lens is very good at any aperture and you don't need to stop it down to get sharp photos. I try to use it @ f4 or 5.6 but 2.8 looks very ...

So, as some of you may know (probably very few, this is a big board after all), a while ago I started a few threads about what to upgrade to, seeing how I had just sold my RX10 and my G1X II and was looking for a camera/lens combination that would give me that little bit "more". Well, I have happened to get my paws on another RX10, the 5th one I have owned, and this time it seems to want to stay for good. Two reasons for that. 1. It's a bit beaten up, the display has a big scratch / crack on ...

Following almost five decades with many cameras the RX10 brings me to a satisfying level of handling and image quality (both still and video) from one camera in one bag. I find the RX10 amply responsive, with a vast array of customizations and near-excellent image quality through a broad range of ISOs. Its live view and video eclipse what I was experiencing with entry level DSLR cameras. The 24-200 fixed f/2.8 lens is ideal for what I shoot: family events, travel, landscape, nature. On the ...

http://photographic-central.blogspot.com/2013/10/sony-cybershot-rx10-wolf-in-wolfs.html The original, not the "II". Considering the image quality, capabilities, and overall versatility of the camera, the used prices and new prices of this camera offer in my opinion the best bang for buck as an all in one camera/lens solution. Less the FZ1000, I can't think of a more capable camera for the price. Add its weather resistance, excellent video capability (with the new firmware), and there's just a ...

After I purchased this camera, I sold my DSLR and my superzoom lens. While giving up some in terms of image noise, it makes up for it in sharpness and focusing speed in poorly lit environments. I purchased it at a sale price, and to be honest, I don't know if it would have paid full price for it, but it was totally worth what I paid for it. Love this lens, love the handling of the camera. Can easily handle images up to 3200 iso without a significant drop in quality (to my non-professional ...

This is the first camera I've bought in several years (the latest being a Canon SX210), and I've been amazed by how much the technology has come on. The digital viewfinder works wonderfully, the auto focus is quick enough to do action shots in difficult conditions (the latest was a floodlit night time World Cup ski race) and indoor shots work well without flash. When there's a bit more light, picture detail is superb. I haven't tried the video yet. A word of warning, however, if you're an ...

I will update this when I have more experience, I have had the camera for a few days and am comparing it to my Olympus M4/3. The good Size, well put together. It is NOT all metal as the marketing folk claim, much of the body is plastic, but good quality, well designed and this is not an issue. I have seen the lens hood criticised - personally I like it and it is neat and fits well. Having a pop up flash is great after my Oly "sticky on" flashes. Colour and detail from the RAW files is good, ...

I have now been able to work with this camera in almost every category of shooting I do. I absolutely love this camera. I have the quick FN menu and custom buttons worked out perfectly as to be able to easily and quickly control most used items. The EVF is excellent, but seeing the the focus fluctuate live is weird. The handling is a pleasure. I initially had issues bumping the aperture ring accidentally occasionally, but changing it to clicks fixed that. The image quality is great for this ...
