Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art

Prime lens | Canon EF, Nikon F (FX), Sigma SA Bayonet | 401

I waited two months for B&H to get this lens in stock and ship it to me so I had to spend some time with it on my D610.   After just a couple of short outings, I loaded them onto my computer and began taking a look. Some of my first impressions were negative.  A lot of vignetting at f 1.4 that did not clear up until f 4.    I was not on a tripod so I have not yet made a precise analysis of the amount of barrel distortion.  I can say that both the vignetting and distortion were easily ...

I received my copy of this lens this past week. The lens severely front focused on both my D800 and Df at f1.4 through f4. I tried different AF settings: AF-S and AF-C. I tried single point and dynamic area AF. No luck. On my D800, I tried to fine tune the focus with the AF fine tune function. The amount of front focus was beyond the adjustment range available in the camera. I have sent this lens back to Amazon as defective.

I bought mine one, just a couple of weeks ago (Apr. 2016). It works perfectly on my D800 and even stopped fully wide I would rate it with 4.5 stars. Indeed, I would list it among my best lenses ever: Nikkor AFS 50 f1,8 - Noct Nikkor 58 f1,2 - Nikkor AFS 85 1,8 - Nikkor AFD DC 135 f2. The lens is sharp at every stop and the photographer has only to chose the preferred deph of field without worring about lost details etc... Probably... it suffers a bit of vignetting but it is well acceptable, ...

I recently bought the lens after reading a few reviews that did not praise it as much as the 35mm or 50mm versions. More than this there are all the horror stories about auto-focus inconsistency problems especially with Nikon D800 bodies. I did not really care about this since i only planned to use the lens for landscapes where manual focus is not a problem. I was immediately amazed by the sturdy and compact construction of the lens. I like the metal construction and the fact that the lens ...

A little background on my previous experience with Sigma Art Lenses. I had a Sigma 35mm Art before the USB Dock was sold and I went through four lenses each with very different AF issues. When the 50 Art debuted, the USB Dock was now available so I took another chance hoping that it would resolve the issues I had earlier. Lo and behold, the 50 Art was perfect after calibrations and has been to date one of my best lenses. After two Sigma 24mm Art lenses, here are my findings. Focusing works ...

Just starting to put the Sigma 24 A thru a variety of challenges on Canon full frames. So far seems to be very sharp in the middle and more than acceptable at the edges. Not as quick as a Canon 35mm L nor Sigma 50 A but once focus is established it's very accurate. My own learning curve is a wideangle at 1.4 produces a very distinct DOP, will take some getting use to. Again in the few weeks I have had the Sigma 24 A, it looks like it will be a very good kit addition.
