This lens has a great zoom range and is TACK SHARP. I've use this for landscapes, architecture and even weddings and it performs beautifully. It generally performs sharp all around, the edges are a little soft at 10mm wide open, but it's not a big deal. It controls distortion very well. People are complaining about buildings being distorted, but that is a given with any wide angle lens. This lens controls starbursts very well, and they look nice when you shoot at f/13 or higher. This was my first lens apart from the kit lens. I have never had reason to regret this. It comes in very handy at many different times but of course landscape and shots of the milkyway are top uses. Beware of scratching the front element as it focuses very close to the sensor. I have also almost walked into things because the field of view is so wide. On the pentax version the HSM should not be included but most often is. It has only screw drive focus but this fast and not at all noisy. It ...

I carefully researched and read all the reviews of available super-wide zooms before settling on this one. There is a lot of choice now, and each lens seems to have its own strengths and weaknesses. However, in my opinion, this lens is still a standout. The construction quality of this lens is far beyond what one would expect for a lens of this price.
