At 86g this is probably the smallest and lightest prime lens for Sony full frame, not quite a pancake lens but almost. The construction is decent with a solid metal mount, however the filter thread is plastic, so I would recommend fitting a uv filter to protect both the front element and the thread as it may crack if bumped. The focus (by wire) ring has a good resistance, personally I would have much preferred it to be rubberised rather than  threaded plastic. Optically this is a good lens. ...

I've used the Samyang 35mm 2.8 along with the Sony/Zeiss 35 2.8mm on a sony a7R and a7r III. To make a long story short; I resold the sony/zeiss 35mm 2.8 and kept the samyang, because even if the Sony is slightly better, it doesn't justify twice the price of the samyang, in my opinion. The Samyang 35mm af 2.8 is a 86g pancake lens, making it a prime choice for walkaround lens. The Samyang AF 35mm f2.8 has an excellent image in all apertures including at f2.8. A little lateral distortion is noticeable with straight lines as buildings. The colors has a beautiful saturation and an excellent contrast I use it with the Sony A7S and I'm very happy with the result. I mostly take stills.
