Dear fellow Pentaxians, the autofocus of my trustworthy K-5 recently stopped working (after close to 100k shutter actuations), so I can now use it only for manual lenses and need to find a successor. I am considering the K-70 as a replacement and was wondering if other forum users have taken that route and are so kind to share their experience. I did a bit of research, so read about the missing top display, the smaller battery, bit slower burst mode etc. which makes it a bit of a down-grade,...

Anybody have any experience with a lens auto focus motor failing? I'm not 100% sure that's the issue, but my beautiful 55mm 1.4 will not autofocus any more. I just wanted to check on the forum before I send it in to Precision. I checked the contacts not the lens and camera mounts - all looks good. It will not work on either my K5 or my K3. Any words of help or advice are greatly appreciated - Thanks Ken

Hi, I had my 2 K-5 Bodies for 6 and 2 years now. One body died a while ago. Now I could get a K-3ii Body for 625€, 3 month old, shutter count around 1500 clicks. Has anyone done this update. What are the major improvements? Is the K-3ii image quality really better? I have to confess that - after 33 years with Pentax cameras - I am seriously considering a change. Better AF, flash metering and 3rd party lens support are big advantages for C/N. Not to mention the prices for these lenses (compare...

Advice please. I’m requiring a FF or MF camera in the next month for hand-held, indoor light 400 - 800ASA product photography/sculptures and performance/live-action. Ideally I’d use extra lights, a flash, tripod, etc, but what I shoot and it’s circumstances mean the subject is more ad-hoc and immediate than would be in a controlled studio. Most photographs are to be printed in an A4 book [including A3 double-spread], some A1 prints and a few very large wallpaper prints. Basically shooting...

I am thinking of trading in all my old Pentax DSLRs to subsidise the K-1. Is there any way I am losing out by swapping a K-5 for a K-1? I can think of a handful: - K-1 is bigger and heavier - battery doesn't last as long - it's useful to have a spare camera. That's about it.  I don't think there is extra reach on a K-5, because the sensor quality of the K-1 within the APS-C area is superior to the K-5 sensor (but correct me if I am wrong on this). Have I missed...

I ordered a 24/1.4 which arrived yesterday. I intend to use it for Astro but there may be no clear stars here for a week or so I took a few test pics of walls etc. Here's 4 pics of a distant roof at f1.4, framed to be in four corners, and cropped. f1.4, 1/8000s, iso 100, K5 View: gallery page As you can see the Lower right corner is less sharp. In my Brick Wall test pic, the Lower right corner looked sharpest, so I assume the difference is caused by decentering. Is this bad enough to warrant...

Hi all, I've recently picked up my Metz 44 AF-1 Pentax again since I wanted to use it together with my K-5 for a couple of portraits. These are the settings I've used: Camera AV, F 4.0 ISO 400 Flash Correction -0.7 "Flash On" Flash TTL It seems the flash always fires at full power, resulting in ridiculously overblown images. Any ideas what might cause this? I've also tried all kinds of other settings, both in camera and in the flash, but it seems to have effect on the flash actually using...

I have a k5 that seemed to miss focus a lot.  I came across a beal on a k50 I couldn't pass up on so bought that.  It seemed to focus better with the 18-55 WR.  This evening I was playing around (inside, low light) and was very disappointed in the image results.  I compared them to my small sensor compact xz-2.  The xz-2 looked better.  I tried manual focus on the k50 and was able to get much better shots.   Is the focus control, or logic, in the lens or the camera body? I've been thinking...

Hi, Is it possible to use a similar Live view AF and quick magnification/ focus check function with K-1 and K-3 (also K-70 etc.) than what Pentax K-5 have?? : ...I found this K-5 feature very useful. And miss it with K-1. Thank you for help, Ari --- Ari Aikomus -'Why should I feel lonely ? is not our planet in the Milky way?'
