Took a B&B break this week and, on a whim, took the Panasonic G1 and GH1 instead of my usual Sigma gear. I had purchased the 14-45mm on the grounds that it was said to be "better" than the later more cheaply-built 14-42mm. However, my shots had a lot of flare in them, enough for me to trash a good few shots. The day was not that bright and the sun was not near the shots and definitely not in the angle of view. Here's one: Another (opposite direction): A hazy overcast, IIRC. My question is...
Hi: Just got a Lumix GX8 today. I have been using a Lumix GH1 for years. Anyhow, when I rotate the monitor out from the body, turn it 180 degrees, then flip it back to the camera body with the monitor facing out, it won't turn on. The monitor will only display when it's tilted at least part way from the body. As soon as it gets close to the body, it automatically switches to the viewfinder. Is this a bug? A flaw in my model that needs to be fixed, or have I just misunderstood how to use the...
I have had my EM 1.2 for a couple of months now and I have a number of issues. Most, I think are due to my coming from many years using a Panasonic GH1 and then GH3. Beside never being able to find things in the manual or in the menus my biggest issue is with the Mode Dial. At least I think it is. EM 1.2 Mode Dial When the mode dial is set to P, C1, C2 or C3 the camera powers up to a fixed group of settings. When it is set to A, S or M it powers up to what the camera was set to when I last...
Since the GH1 came out I have been a Panasonic camera photographer. I currently have the GH3. But now I have an Olympus E-M1ii on order. I have downloaded the manual online. I understand most manuals for complex things these days are not ideal. But I am frequently confused trying to learn about my new camera. I'm sure reading while actually playing with the camera will help a lot. What I am looking for here is a pointer to how I can learn about the new camera other than just the manual...

My Panasonic GH1 and GH2 are both noticeably noisier on stills than my Canon 650D, to the extent that I only use them for video now. (see 100% crops picture below, with some auto-levels to enhance the noise) It's mostly colour noise (blobs or red and green) but there are nasty textures too. My test shots were at ISO 160 at highest quality JPEG (the noise is the same in RAW) The GH2 is hacked for long-shooting video, but that shouldn't have an effect on the stills quality should it? Any...
I am having a problem with my video files coming from the Lumix GM1 and also the GH1 i owned before. I am recording with AVCHD 50i, but they are importing as 25p files into Premiere, also video properties show them as 25p. When imported into Premiere the image looks very aliased, also encoding the final video as 25p makes the movement much more jaggy than the original files. I never managed to overcome this problem. When watching my original MTS files, they look fine, but as soon as I import...
Has anyone else had this message come up on their Panasonic GH1 ? The card is still readable by the camera, iPad or PC or Mac, but otherwise like it says, it's locked. In the past the problem has been intermittent but the current card seems to be going the way of the previous one towards being permanently locked so far as the camera is concerned. Any ideas ?

Since Sony announced the upcoming 70-200 2.8, I decided it's time to upgrade from my GH1 to a full frame mirrorless. I shoot when I travel, focusing on portraits, but I also visit many temples, ruins, etc. I thought I might make my travel Sony kit with the 16-35 (been missing a wide angle which I currently don't have), the 55 1.8, and the 70-200 2.8 for a 7 week trip to SEAsia in June. Alas, it doesn't look like the 70-200 will be out anytime soon. B&H estimated it would be at least a few...
