Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Summilux 25-50mm F1.7 ASPH is a fast-aperture telephoto zoom lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras. With its 50-100mm equivalent focal length range, it has the potential to replace a selection of prime lenses. The lens has 16 elements in 11 groups, and features one aspherical lens and three Extra-low Dispersion (ED) lenses and one Ultra-high Refractive lens (UHR). Focus is silent and internal, with a 9-bladed circular diaphragm and the manual focus ring is a 'clutch' design, allowing you to pull it back to engage manual focus complete with a distance scale. Zooming is likewise fully internal and the lens is comprised mostly of magnesium alloy and sealed against dust and moisture.

The Panasonic Leica 25-50mm F1.7 provides excellent optical quality, a solid build and a fast maximum aperture in a slightly unusual, but very usable, focal range. It makes for a natural and excellent pairing with the company's existing 10-25mm F1.7 for video work, and lends itself well to a variety of photographic pursuits from portraits to street shooting.
Good for: Video shooters, portraiture, street and action photography.
Not so good for: Photographers on a budget or those who like to travel light.
