I bought this camera as a replacement for my Optio S5i that was getting long in the tooth. After a few weeks with the FX48, I've gotta say it's a good replacement and a decent compromise on features. I was looking for something that turned on and snapped pics quickly, had good quality, could survive being outside for a little while, and had a decent movie mode. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48 (Lumix DMC-FX40)
I bought this camera mainly because of its ultra wide angle lens. I used to own a Panasonic FX30, which had an 28mm lens. I was already satisfied with that model, but this one has a 25mm and I like it even better. I also like the 5x zoom; it comes in very handy. I own a Pentax K-20D plus sigma 70-200 2.8 hsm and pentax 16-50 sdm lenses. I was looking for a P&S camera to use in occasions where my reflex is unusable (sport activity, everyday shooting, party with friends). Found the FX40 very good. Fast focus, reasonable image noise till 400 iso. Quite unusual 2.8 in wide. And much more unusual real wide angle zoom start. I think I'll use this camera a lot.
