At only 4.85mm thickness the R5 is the at the time of its launch slimmest smartphone in the market. It is also very nicely built and comes with an aluminum alloy frame and all around high-end specifications. Android 4.4.4 with Oppo's ColorOS 2.0 is powered by Qualcomm's new system chip, the Snapdragon 615 which features an octa-core processor that is clocked at 1.5GHz. It is combined with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage but unfortunately there is no microSD expansion.
The camera module features a 1/3-inch 13MP Sony IMX214 BSI CMOS sensor and a fast F2.0 aperture and is capable of recording 4K video. At the front there is a 5MP module for selfies and video-chats that also comes with a F2.0 aperture. In terms of imaging software the R5 offers many of the functions that we have seen on previous Oppo devices and the N3, including a stitching mode that allows for capturing of 50MP images, a refocus feature, focus tracking and animated GIF creation. Arguably due to the device's slim physique at 2,000mAh the R5's Li-Polymer battery is not one of the largest we have seen but, like the N3, comes with Oppo's VOOC rapid recharging technology.
