When this lens was first released, the pricing for a lens with a very slow f/6.3 at the zoom end was ridiculous. Now, years on, when I purchased this lens in 2015 for less than half the price it originally retailed for, I expected the kind of results you get from a basic kit lens- how wrong I was! It is definitely not perfect- no lens in this price range is, with clunky, noisy, fragile and frankly unnecessary electronic zoom, though the "M-Zoom" mode is passable since it bypasses the ...

Having read all the fair-to-middling reviews for this lens, I gave it a wide berth originally, as I felt that so many less than stellar reviews did not bode well for it, regardless of the build quality or brand name. But recently I found a copy for $150 and thought at worst that if I hated it, I could sell it off at the same price.  Turns out I don't hate it! I was very fortunate to pick up a mint, like new Oly 12-50mm for $155. Just couldn't pass it up. It is being used on my EM-10 and I am extremely impressed with its quality and versatility. The addition of a macro setting is a real plus as well as the electronic zoom which is very smooth, better than the mechanical zoom. The lens is sharp enough and using it outdoors, you are not limited by the 3.5-6.3 range. This is a very nice walk around lens and balances well on the camera. Even at a ...

After reading all the negative reviews, I was surprised when using the Olympus 12 - 50 mm on my OM-D. It is really a nice walk-around lens. Sure, the Olympus, Panasonic and even the Sigma primes are sharper, faster and smaller but on the OM-D the 12 - 50 mm is an underrated lens. I like the Macro-mode, the fact that it is weather sealed and first of all the 24 - 100 zoom makes it very versatile.

This lens is a "must-have" for the OM-D, because of the weather sealing. It could be a bit smaller, but its very flexible. The image quality isn't perfect, but for the price its quiet good. I really like this lens.

Yes, it isn't the best lens in the world, but it is very satisfactory for me on my E-P2 camera (12 MP). It's sharp enough, no vignetting, no disotorsion, beautiful color, good contrast, no flare and, most important, the photo is good from edge to edge. I have also a Leica 24 mm f2,8 asph (48 mm on E-P2) and, believe me, you can see differences only in very large prints. If you can accept dimensions and weight (this is not a small lens), this is a fine lens indeed. And, if you like old ...
