The Nikon 1 S1 is a fine CSC, with a long list of admirable features. It may not be the best choice for low-light (with the lack of a proper VR system standing out as a particular disappointment), neither is it the ideal option around which to build a system of lenses and accessories, but if you just want a small, light and capable carry-around camera it's definitely one for the shortlist.

The 1 Nikkor 10mm prime lens is a competent performer but some buyers may also wish to consider the 1 Nikkor 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 VR zoom, which can be obtained for the same price or slightly less. It would be interesting to review that lens too because as things stand it appears to be the more versatile and capable option.

The V1 is beautifully made, fun to use, has an excellent built-in EVF and delivers good quality pictures in most situations, including fast action. The problem is that it isn't clear who it's for, and so it falls between two stools.
