Apologies for the basic questions: Our Nikon J1 has just died after a long and tough life, are they generally worth getting repaired? It suddenly no longer powers up after a bit of a knock. If a repair is half the cost of a camera, then I think I would rather get a new one. Alternatively, if we were to buy a J5, will the old J1 lenses be completely compatible? i.e. will all features of the lens be available (power on, autofocus, metering etc), or do lenses for a J5 have new...
Hi I've seen a J2 and 10-30mm kit lens for a crazy steal of a price of £85 in a local shop. It's used but comes with 2 year repair warranty and will be just as a carry everywhere snapshot camera. In the review of the J1 I read about the poor auto ISO behaviour where it chooses a stop compensation in ISO an one in tandem with s/speed, often meaning it would not up the ISO enough to provide a quick enough s/speed in dim light. You could not in 2012 set a minimal shutter speed for auto ISO like...

For example, when I dial in to movie mode the screen displays exactly the image I'm about the record, exposure and all. (Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, I can only take 2 megapixel still shots with the dial set to movie mode.) Is there a way to have this "live view" feature while in a still picture mode? I own other mirror-less cameras that allow you to do this but can't figure it out on my Nikon J!. Thank you.

Hello folks Ok, this comes somewhat as an odd question but the pretext for actually asking this is because I found a pretty good deal for a Nikon 1 32mm f/1.2 lens at a clearance sale. Loving doing low light photography it sounds to be one kind of a dream lens, especially where the street price is around 850$ otherwise. The thing is, I already own a Nikon J1, which is a very enjoyable camera, and I was wondering how suitable the J1 is having this f/1.2 lens mounted or if it would be somewhat...

Does my Nikon One J1 have an Aptina sensor that is capable of the "Aptina conversion gain changing trick? ... aka "dual base ISO"? If so, what are the ISO's? Related question? Is the Aptina sensor used in the One's considered to be "ISO-invariant" with very low noise floor? This Sony a7Rii semi-newbie finds that its "dual base ISO" of 100 and 640 is very impressive. This technology was apparently developed by Aptina, and perhaps licensed to Sony. My observation based on limited experience is...

Hi there, my 1st post in this section of the forum...I tend to "lurk" for the most part, but try to be active now an again! Ive just got a V1/FT1 and J1 recently, so was wondering what to expect in regards to image quality for close up/macro photography. My subjects being Butterflies/Reptiles/Dragonflies/Bugs etc. I have a D700, and both the nikon macro/micro 105mm VR lens, an also a Sigma 150mm F/2.8 APO DG macro lens too. But to be honest, most of my close up/macro work is shot using a...
I am curious if the FT-1 acts the same on V series bodies as it does on J series when I use the FT-1 with my F mount nikkors on my J1 or J4 bodies the cameras default to center point focus and the ability to use focus tracking and all focus points is gone is this the same on V series bodies or do you retain all focus modes I have tried this with several lenses and it acts the same with all of them 70-200 vr 24-70 60mm micro and 35mm 1.8 all AF-S G lenses I am in the process of deciding...

I've been shooting semi-professionally with Nikon DSLR's for many years now, which uses large, easy to handle Compact Flash cards... I pop the card out and into a IEEE1394 fire wire reader, and off I go. I just purchased a J5 (wife has had a J1 for years) just for shooting around the house. Ok I get it, everything's smaller today, and the 1 series has gone from SD cards to micro SD! I really don't want to pop out the micro card from the camera every time I have a new photo to upload. I had...
