It's been almost 9 months since I bought this expensive toy. I had just about made up my mind to get the 'old' G lens when I read Nikon's announcement of the 500 & 600 Fluorite lenses, so I decided to wait a little more, save a whole lot more, and take the plunge. It was on my second trip to Alaska when I had the opportunity to put my copy to the test. When I noticed that the number of 'keepers' were actually smaller than on my first Alaska trip (where I shot with the 500mm f/4 G), I decided ...

I feel the lens much lighter comparing to the older 600mm f/4 G although it is only 3 lbs less. I think the new design is more balance instead of the front heavy in the previous model. It was impossible for me to shoot handheld with the older version whereas I can shoot handheld with this new version for a few minutes. I notice the focus speed and accuracy are comparable to the older model. So far my experience with this lens is good. However when shooting with TC 1.4 III, it shows vignette ...

This lens is amazing, even with he TC-14E III. I feel that somehow it's able to deliver better results than my 400mm f/2.8E lens but then again, maybe it's because I was 90% of the time treating my 400 as a wannabe 600. If you need reach, want the most beautiful bokeh, want the most luscious color rendition and need f/4.. buy this lens!!!  Another thing-  It's LIGHT!!  Just as manageable as the 400 f/2.8E. One side note-  It's a poor design in my opinion but not enough to degrade a 5-star ...

I traded in my D800, my 500mm f4 VR, three other lenses to help ease the price of this beast. Now that I have it I am pleased and would do the same again. I did love my 500mm prime but many of my bird shots were cropped more than I'd have liked and this extra reach makes that much of a difference. The lens, when on a D4 feels lighter than my 500 used to. It is actually much the same weight but the balance is slightly better. I can have my Wimberley head on my tripod and the camera with lens ...

I have bought this lens just few weeks ago and unfortunately the weather here in italy don't give me enough occasion to use it. During the working days there is the sun while in the weekend always rain. Anyway, I used this lens only in two occasion until now. Previous of this model I had the old Nikon 500 mm F.4 VR. The old lens was more well balanced and had less vignetting. The new 600 mm has a little bit faster autofocus, great VR and it is 80g lighter and look sharper. I'm tall 1.87 m for ...
