I have a bit of a tortured history with 35mm primes. My first was actually the DX version on a D3100. For whatever reason the focal length was just awkward to me and I did not use it much. Basically too short for portraits or general telephoto use but too long for a one prime general walk around lens. My copy is Brutal at F1.4...Its very soft and unusable. CA is so bad But at f2 it gets sharp and even sharper at f2.8. at 2.8 and up it is my sharpest lens. I bought this lens to use at 1.4 ...but I cant. On Nikons behalf ive used another copy of this lens and it was very good ay 1.4. So I sent mine back to Nikon Canada with the intentions of paying $400 to have it repaired and they sent it back saying it was fine. well I know its not. this is very fast focus,sharp lens ideal focal length on D3s,no distortion at all,i been using this lens for the last many months and very satisfied with the performance.highly recommended.
