Hi all, I'm trying to find out what the type / model tripod collar is that is originally supplied with the Nikkor AF-S 300mm. f/4.0 IF ED. My sample 'died' on me, the tread on the collar complete disintegrated and I'm looking for a replacement. The type is not imprinted on the collar itself, it's not mentioned in the lens manual, I can't find it on Nikon's website (at least not the Dutch site), a forum search here didn't help out and Google keeps pointing me towards the RT-1 because that fits...
Hi I am currently using an AF 70-300 f/4-5.6 G (no VR, no ED. screwdrive G) for aircraft spotting on my D800 and i am not really happy with this lens. I don't always need to crop but when i do, i don't like the image quality. Most of my time shooting in airshows or near airport locations i always stay at the long end of the lens. I thought about getting the 200-500 zoom or 150-600 zoom of sigma or tamron but all three are out of my price range. I also thought on getting a budget dx camera...

Hello. I have finally gotten myself a D7200 and a 300mm f4 af-s non vr version. I had D3200 & 55-300mm package and i got used to the VR it had. Now with my new lens i get ALOT of shaky pictures even tho i use shutterspeeds over 1000 almost every time. Could there be something wrong with the camera or the lens? --My Flickr
To me it looks like +10 is the sharpest but not sure, please help. Technicalities are: D750 + AF-S 300mm f/4 IF-ED + TC-14EII on tripod, 10 second timer delay, NEF raw out put from CNXD (crop only), the focus point is on the tip of the beak of Pingue. Thanks AF fine tune off AF finetune -10 AF finetune +10

Hi all, I posted a little while ago asking about the Nikon 300 AF F/4 for bird photography purposes with my D5200. After seeing the really positive things people had to say, esp. regarding its sharpness, I went ahead and bought it. I've only had two opportunities to take it out so far, and to be honest am a little underwhelmed with my purchase, even concerned. I took shots both with and without monopod (Sirui P-326 with Manfrotto head). Though I love the bokeh and the speed of the autofocus,...

I don't want to write too much, but basically, I think getting a 400mm prime could be much lighter + better image quality solution. It's probably pretty close to being comparable to Canon's 400mm 5.6. Both the "Tony Northrup" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fmMG5jgDwk&list=PLwIVS3_dKVpsjSZrQ7H-Nw8GQ7ZuDYyaD tamron review ,...

I know, the 300/4 VR doesn't exist yet, but there has been a lot of discussion about it and I think there is a good chance it will eventually be introduced. VR would be a great addition just as AF-S was on the 80-400. Background: I use a D800E; for telephotos I have a 70-200/2.8 VR I (good for sports but not landscapes), a 70-200/4 VR (great at many things and smaller/lighter), and a 300/4 AF-S (great quality, near-macro focusing, 400/5.6 with a TC). My typical "heavier" travel kit includes...
