The reason I gave this lens 4 stars is because the filter mount. With the lens hood, whenever I take it on or off, it feels like the filter thread is going to break off. Find this a very useful lens on both my D50 and D300. Its plenty sharp enough with decent AF speed for 'family' events, or for walking in the hills. Mine was second hand and I got it quite cheaply. Better engineered than the 18-55mmlens I had previously (before my daughter dropped it!).

Sharpness and beautiful bokeh are characteristic of better macro lenses. While this 18-70 lens is very versatile and produces nice results, it has its place, and that is not the macro arena. Problems: No problems at all with this lens.

This is really an amazing lens. I bought this second hand which is very cheap considering it was priced very high when sold at first now you can do a real bargain if you find one in good condition like i did. Compared to the 18-55 which takes good photos already i never liked the feel of it, plastic, if using filters the front moves which is not the best perhaps if using filters. The lens is also very well built, a step up from the kit lens in all ways a bit better aperture range 4.5 vs 5.6 ...
