I have bought the camera after reading reviews "it's nearly as good as a DSLR". The shape looks promising too ;-) Well, the construction and body shape are fine, but the innards not really. After testing the camera in various conditions for a whole day I decided to return it. Possibly, just my perfectionism, however I am feeling a lot better with my old D70 + 18-70. Problems: Combination of color noise and sharpening artifacts. Chromatic aberrations. Zoom in steps only.

It will do almost everything my Minolta SLR will do and is very light and easy to use. Not quite pocket size unless it's a large pocket Image quality in the lower ISO range is more than acceptable Problems: It could do with a filter thread for at least a UV filter as a lens protector and for a polariser. It could also do with a hotshoe for a separate flash

After extensive testing and fidgeting with this camera I am returning it. I understand all limitations of the small sensor size, but the image quality of this camera is mediocre at best. I am talking about sharpness, resolution and noise. Anything above ISO 100 shows significant amount of grain (or noise reduction artifacts, if you enable that). The choice was between Canon Powershot S5 IS, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 and Nikon Coolpix P80. All three having great features but only Nikon was in stock. So I went for that one. At first glance I was very impressed by the camerahouse and how well it fit in my hand(s). Even my wifes hands fit perfectly and she got very, very small hands. Even though im quite experienced with cameras of various brands, both me and my wife didn't need to read the manual to charge the battery, insert both ...

Problem with the P-80. I purchased the P50 several days ago, for two primary reasons. 1] I am an old Nikon F fan and 2] I wanted a digital 'super zoom' that was able to do video clips with zoom, with sound and VR. As expected the Nikon performed very well in all categories, EXCEPT in video mode. My previous/current 'super zoom' is a 4+ yr old Fuji S-602 and has no VR or use of zoom during video recording. The Fuji's video records excellent video quality clips [superior resolution to many ...
