I bought this camera, in spite of some negative opinions. All I can say is, at least read manual, before making some decisions. Pictures taken in single and contionuous mode are brilliant, optics and VR works perfect even at maximal zoom. Camera starts qiuck (if welcome screen is disabled) and shoot to shoot time is good as well. As it's mentioned several times there, it's not a SLR, so don't wait same performance. It's not typical point and shoot camera as well. Read manual before, use ...

GARBAGE Camera. I bought into the ad saying this camera had a very fast responce and Frame per second capability. I do alot of sports shooting so it sounded good. It shoots multiple frames per second but the pictures produced are awful & aren't worth a dime. Brought the camera back to the store figuring it was defective. In the year 2008 I didn't think it possible a new camera from a company like Nikon could realy be this bad. Sure enough the replacement camera was just as bad if ...

As a Canon owner for DSLR's, P&S, and Video cameras, I hate seeing stupid people give this camera 1 out of 5 stars and not even trying it. It is stupid and childish. I saw it quickly at Costco and it looked impressive in my humble opinion. Problems: Dpreview allowing dumb people to post before the camera is released without giving a reason why they gave it a one out of 5 stars across the board.

I also own the Canon S5 and this Nikon P80 is equal in every way except for the 18X zoom and an extra 2 MP. I dislike hearing all the negative comments on here especially of the P80 video quality. If you want t take good video, buy a video camera not a photograph camera. DUH! Also, about the ISO automatically going into the higher ranges and giving unacceptable images, did you see the feature that limits the auto ISO range to a max. of 100 or 200? Read the manual before you criticize. This is ...

Less than I hoped, but it isn't intended to compete with the SLRs. I purchased this Camera from Best Buy 2 weeks ago. I have played around with it a fair amount but I have not actually taken it out for any serious shooting. I have been shooting the Nikon D70 and this year moved up to the D300, which I adore. But, the D300 is a valuable piece of equipment and very heavy. I wanted a camera for family events, vacations, etc. that could take action shots and was very light. I discovered ...

The choice was between Canon Powershot S5 IS, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 and Nikon Coolpix P80. All three having great features but only Nikon was in stock. So I went for that one. At first glance I was very impressed by the camerahouse and how well it fit in my hand(s). Even my wifes hands fit perfectly and she got very, very small hands. Even though im quite experienced with cameras of various brands, both me and my wife didn't need to read the manual to charge the battery, insert both ...

This camera is advertised as a top fuel dragster on nitro but you get a Datsun 510 on diesel fuel! Those who posted positive reviews of this camera must be beginners in the early stages of learning. I purchased this camera mainly for the advertised (FAST) burst most of 13 plus images per sec. It does do that however the image quality is that of a camera out of a Cracker Jack Box! Major problems w/ the images awere multiple verticle lines going thru the images. Dark images due to camera ...

Problem with the P-80. I purchased the P50 several days ago, for two primary reasons. 1] I am an old Nikon F fan and 2] I wanted a digital 'super zoom' that was able to do video clips with zoom, with sound and VR. As expected the Nikon performed very well in all categories, EXCEPT in video mode. My previous/current 'super zoom' is a 4+ yr old Fuji S-602 and has no VR or use of zoom during video recording. The Fuji's video records excellent video quality clips [superior resolution to many ...

I have owned 3 Nikon cameras, 2 point and shoot and one D60 and I have now purchased the Nikon P80 and found it to be very good. The quality of construction could have been a little better as it feels and looks like an "all plastic" construction camera and this did turn me off a little. However, this being said, the Nikon P80 image quality, the feel of the camera, the weight, the zoom, the ease of understanding, the handling and the size of the camera make it one of the best I have ...

I am a novice photographer who upgraded to a P-80 two days ago from a six year old Canon S-30 (our first DC). Unlike many of the amateur reviews I've come across on for the P-80, I'm finding it is taking some wonderful pictures! It definitely shines on the close-up shots, and does much better outdoors than indoors. The zoom is pretty amazing for a camera this small and light, and the image stabilization really helps keep the image focussed even while zoomed in (you can see the image shaking ...
