My Coolpix P500 is 2 years old and I love it! So many features in such a great package! One issue though: When the lens is zoomed in, focusing goes nuts, especially in low light, like trying to shoot the moon or such. It won't focus and the image in the finder screen moves all around, whirring. How on earth do I get it to stop that and just focus!! Thanks.
Hi, I copied all the folders from SD Card from my Nikon P500 and copied them to my computer's hard drive. The folders were like 100Nikon, 101Nikon etc. But the problem is that all the files have been copied with .xml extension. e.g. DSCN0010.jpg.xml The file size are 3-5 MB which makes me believe that I have not lost the data and I have hope to extract it out I tried the following - - Changed the file extension from xml to jpg from cmd using 'ren' and mac using 'mv' - Did not work -...
a) I'm at amateur trying to learn how to move off iAuto... b) I have and E-PL1 with kit lens, plus the 14-150mm and 17mm 2.8 lenses c) Going on National Geographic expedition to alaska (small boat, lots of Zodiac trips, not a cruiseliner). d) Need long telephoto; have a Coolpix P500, which might do for that purpose. e) question is, will I be better off upgrading the PL1 to a PL5 and taking the P500, or should I stick with the PL1 and get a 150-300 Olympus lens for it? I'm looking at refurb...
Hi I am presently using Nikon CoolPix P500. Now I want to shift to D-SLR. I shoot indoor performances as well as nature photographs. I also like to shoot from running trains or bus, when I find something good. I want to go for serious photography now. Please guide me so that I can buy the right kind of camera. Thanks for your patience and guidance. Rgds acebee

Just signed up to DP Forum so hello from Delmont Pa only 23 miles east of PGH. I was wondering if any other members use the Nikon P500 series bridge camera. Give me yell if you do and let me know how you like it. I had to downsize to a smaller and lighter camera that had a generous wide angle lens and ultra zoom with excellent quality. So far its been a joy. Hope to hear from you and see some of those great pictures. BEST Doug aka oknahs
Before I had this D7100, I had a P500. When I half pressed the shutter key on the P500, everything in the frame was in focus, but on the D7100, it doesn't do that. Say I want to take a photo of my laptop, the D7100 would have the screen in focus, but the keyboard blurry. Is there a way to get everything in the frame to be in focus? I am using the auto mode (no flash) on the D7100 and I am using the 18-140 lens on auto focus. Thanks in advance.
I have been taking pictures for a long time now. My current camera is a Nikon P500. It has a great zoom and takes great pictures. It is time though to take the step up to a DSLR, I have been reading reviews and looking at the local stores and my head is ready to explode with all the different information I have gotten. I have narrowed it down to either the Nikon D5200 or the Pentax K50. I mostly take landscape/city pictures, some sports and fast action shots also. I would like to get into...
