Motorola Moto X Play / Motorola Droid Maxx 2 Overview
The Moto X Play establishes a new category in the Motorola smartphone lineup and slots in below the new flagship Moto X Style. In the camera module it offers the same 1/2.4-inch Sony IMX230 21MP BSI CMOS sensor and F2.0 aperture as its top-end cousin, but Motorola says the image processing is not identical. A dual-LED flash is on board as well and in video mode the Moto X Play can capture 1080p footage at 30 frames per second or 720p slow-motion video.
At the front there's a 5MP camera module. It doesn't come with the same front flash as the Moto X Style but, as on the new Moto G, the display brightness can briefly be cranked up during image capture to provide some additional illumination in low light. Like the other new Motorola models, Moto X Style and Moto G, the Moto X Play camera app has a new Night Mode that increases the ISO for a reduced risk of image blur and brighter exposures in very dark conditions. At the same time, image resolution is reduced in order to average out noise and other artifacts.
Images can be viewed on a 5.5-inch 1080p display and Android 5.1 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with 1.7 GHZ Octacore CPUs and 2GB RAM. Users can choose between versions with 16 or 32GB of storage and a microSD-slot allows storage expansion by up to 128GB. A 3630mAh battery should provide plenty of power and Motorola's TurboPower quick charging mode is available as well.
