Having been taught to despise all "kit lenses" (especially Nikon's endless stream of f/slow 18mm-infinity "consumazooms") by my previous system manufacturer who shall remain nameless, when I switched to the Fuji system 3yrs ago, I swore never to buy Fuji's 18-55... Well, with the release of the X-T3 and the X-Pro3, it became clear to me that I wouldn't be getting an IBIS bodied Fuji for a few more years (X-H1 is a bit large for my tastes), so I finally broke down and picked up a $280 used ...

I use it daily for everything. Landscape, portraits, sports, documentary. By far the best "kit" lens I have owned and I've had a few. At f5,6 it feels like a prime on every level. Even had a few shots sold for commercial use. Check out @stayuntilforever all shot with the XT2 XF18-55mm, 23mmf2 and XF55-200mm

When I decided to move from Nikon to Fuji this lens was my first choice because I needed one versatile, and moderately fast zoom to start with. My initial idea was to buy Fuji and use it beside my Nikon, just to be sure it is good for me before I sell all my Nikon gear, but then I started to compare it with my Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM I found out that Fujinon XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS is not a very sharp lens at all. I was surprised by this because so many people online said that ...

Lots of great features from this XF Lens. I have been primarily a Canon shooter with my collection of L lens over the years. So, I was skeptical when had this lens with my XT3. If I could summarize it up into one word, "WOW" is exactly how I would describe it. I also kept my expectations realistic for this lens. It's on a cropped sensor (not a negative), but it is smaller glass. It does have OIS and it's fast enough for everyday usage. Sure, I would prefer the slightly wider 16-55 with a ...

The XF 18-55 looks good on paper. It is fairly small, stabilized and fast on the wide end. It is also well built, and fairly quiet. There are, however, three areas where I find it lacking: (1) Firstly, the lens suffers from massive chromatic aberrations. It is so significant that I struggle to remove it from RAW files. This is bad for image quality, and also my enthusiasm when I spot it.

Zoom very good for its price, obviously not as good as fixed focal lengths but makes good service. I still use it very little, especially when I want the 35mm focal length.

I ended up with a bad copy of this lens. My 18mm f2 and 35mm f.14 are MUCH sharper than anything I can get out of this lens. Tested it on a solid tripod with OS off and it's still soft, even stopped down to f5.6/f8. I'm a professional photographer so I know how to get sharp images (I have no issues like this from any of the dozens of other lenses I own in nikon or fuji mount) and this copy simply won't do it. I'm not being super picky, this lens is just really bad. I did a quick "decentering" ...

Mine came as a kit lens with my X-T2 I bought one year ago. I was coming from a dual system m4/3 (pana gh3) and FF (canon 5d classic). I wanted to unify on one quality system to build on. The so acclamed Fuji APS system seem to be the right one. Since I got it I wasn't able to really shoot a keeper. I found the shots I made dull and soft with bad colors, and really bad skin rendering (no detail ). I got lot of under average results. So many things were said about fuji jpeg quality but it is ...
