I have a large amount of DSLR kit, ranging from 16mm lenses up to 400mm with bodies to match. I shoot sport, weddings, bands, stage productions; in fact if it moves, I tend to shoot it. My wife, whilst happy with the photos I show her, won't let me anywhere near a holiday suitcase with any of this kit. I therefore, had to go and look for a small, compact but capable camera to take on holiday or away for the day. Enter the M series of cameras by Canon. I started with an M3 which is a more than ...

I wanted to travel a bit lighter on our recent vacation in San Diego, so I brought the M5 I bought earlier this year along with my Tamron 16-300 as my primary solution.  I also brought my Sigma 8-16, Canon 50 f/1.8 STM, and 22 f/2 EF-M.  At the last minute I threw in my Sigma 50-500 (so much for small and light); we had the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on the agenda, and that would require a long lens.  I considered renting a 100-400 and 1.4x TC but ultimately decided that that would be ...

This is my second purchase of this camera. I did a lot of research and could not beat the specs for this camera. Once again I have found a that this camera is superb and gives great results. I compared to the M50 and I liked the M5 better because of the metal frame compared to a composite frame. The minor bad is the selection of lenses but for the amateur to experienced it is just fine. The positive of the system is it's small size including the size of the lens without a loss of photo quality. ...

A simple impression on EOS M5 1. Good AF acquisition. This was the top reason to get M5. However, it is not fast enough in tracking for sports. It is okay for slow back/forward movements, while it has difficulty tracking random movements. 2. Many dedicated, customizable controls are very welcome. The second concern when I moved from the original M. It will take some time for me to get used to them all. 3. The overall use of EVF is pleasing. The third reason for my getting M5. Smooth and ...

I am using this camera since few weeks. Now I took it to Canary Islands, where I am intensively shooting landscapes. I am quite happy , except one thing the video recording button is so placed that I switch it on occidentally, very frequently. It harms. Other features are OK. You can nicely crop 24 millions sized image, it works. This camera, as Canons is not for sport shooting. To long delay!

Canon m5 is a great little camera, but it is held back by the following: 1. No cross type af sensors 2. No selective af patterns like the 7d2 3. Poor af in low light 4. No effective spot af 5. For flash photography, it does not use canon's pre-flash from their flashes and ettl is thus slow. 6.  Lack of L type lens for the M series.  Maybe competitors will get into the game 7.  Tracking bif and sports is poor 8.  Most importantly, canon has not decided where to put their low end resources ...

Hi all, I recently had the opportunity to shoot with the new EOS M5, and here were my impressions: The Good: Ergonomics – The ergonomics of the camera are great for the size. Coming from a 6D was comfortable and I found my way around easily and button placement is one of the best I have used on an APS-C mirrorless camera. Autofocus - The autofocus on the M5 is great for a mirrorless camera. I wish my 6D had it in live view! It’s great to see Canon catch up with mirrorless autofocus. As good ...

Well I have had the camera for a couple of months now and I am even more impressed. I have read the book and called tech support a couple of times for clarification and they were great and I now have my camera set up exactly as I want it. I also just ordered the 18-150mm Zoom lens and will report back. The features are impressive and very changeable. I am very happy I purchased this camera.

I bought this camera a couple of weeks ago after a lot of research. So far I like it. I was using a Sony a6000 and I was just not getting the type of pictures i wanted. I bought one of the first EOS-M and it was a great camera but it had no Viewer. It is one of the main things I want i any camera. I have tried a lot of shots of different scenes both day and night an I do not find any problems that some have complained about. I do not use my camera for video so for me that is not an issue. I ...
