I'm shooting with 5D2 from a helicopter in arid country, which means early/late or dusty/hazy, and the low contrast is playing havoc with the AF. I'm employing two strategies, but there's certainly room for improvement, and I would appreciate advice: 1. Setting the camera to AF one shot and wide pattern to try to pick up contrast in the subject. This is producing a lot of missed focus (but better than centre point, which is totally hopeless). And many that are sharp in the focus area, but the...

Hello, I need some advice and opinions. I have been doing my research on cameras since I am looking to upgrade to a full frame. I currently have the 70D but don't like the crop sensor on it. My main uses are for occasional portraits, travel/photo journalism, landscape photography, and video. I am on a budget and can only spend $1000-1500 on a new camera. I am seeing the 5D mkii on ebay for less than $1000 and I am currently looking at a listing of the camera body + 24-105mm F4L for about...

Dear Sir or Madam, I am studying the RAW files of your comparison tool to see if and at what cost I 'd maybe be able to get any decent ISO improvement over my current EOS 5D2. Important to note about the hi ISO performance is also, that a noisy 50MP image can in total contain more information as a clean 12MP image, if the noisy 50 MP image can be downscaled to an even cleaner 12MP file too. Actually. I am not looking for low noise only, but mainly for "high sensor information", what I 'd...

There is a canon 5d mark ii for sale here close to home for 900.00 with a new shutter.  Stated it had met it's life span and canon replaced it.  the camera is in good cosmetic shape.  It's quite a bit lower in price than other used one in this market.  The shutter replacement is what worries me.  How do you guys feel about that.  Should I be wary? Thank you April Campbell

I'm going on an extended trip to Greece in the spring, and need some guidance about what to do with all of the files I plan to create.  In the past, I've shot raw, and used EOS utility loaded on a laptop to transfer the days shooting before starting again the following day.  I have usually used 2 CF cards, and that was enough to record the days results.  On this trip, I won't have the laptop, and I'm wondering if I'm stuck with buying a bunch of additional CF cards, or if there is another...

Hi . . i have error code ERR70 , anyone else ? . . It started intermittently last week and came to a head yesterday. It says 'cannot communicate with the battery' tried removing battery and putting it back in and using a different battery it worked for a few frames but then reverts back to ERR70 again. Tried reinstalling Firmware Update 2.1.2. but this just sticks at 98% , so won't fully instal now and camera is just stuck in this perpetual circle back to 98% and camera has no other...

As one who is seriously considering moving from a Canon system over to a mirror-less system, what disadvantages have you found working with the 4/3 sensor - if any?  The two camera bodies I am considering are the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and the Fujifilm X-T2.  Still under consideration is the Sony A7 II, although I already have a FF Canon 5D Mark II with excellent lenses. My photographs will mainly be used on my blog as well as putting together "slideshows" for friends.  In other words, I...

I'm considering moving from a Canon system to a smaller mirror-less system.  Weight is a motivator for the move.  While I have narrowed the choices to three brands, Sony, Fujifilm and Olympus, I want to begin looking at the three systems with lenses as the deciding factor.  Instead of focusing on camera bodies, I need help or advice on what optics might be best for someone interested in landscape (travel), street, portrait, and a little macro photography.  These images will not be sold or...

I have a sense that I can push the ISO higher in the 5D4 than in my retired 5D2 and still come out with decent quality images.  So, in ordinary outdoor shooting, I find myself pushing the ISO toward 800 in late afternoon winter light so as to be able to keep the shutter speed high enough to prevent motion artifact in hand held shots.  Sure, there is some image degradation going from ISO 200 to 800 range.  But, in your shooting, do you feel this is worth the shutter speed dividend?  If yes,...
