Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II

Announced Sep 21, 2004 •
17 megapixels | 2 screen | Full frame sensor

I bought this camera in 2017 as a "beater" to use in bad weather and in dodgy locations when I didn't want to bring my 5D Mark II. Here are it's strong and weak points: Strengths: - Cheap: This camera can be bought used in decent condition for about $400-$500. Mind you this was $8,000 when introduced in 2004. It's built like a tank and virtually indestructible with a shutter rating up to 200,000 actuations. - Weather sealed: Great for rain or snow. - Comfortable: Although extremely heavy, it ...

I bought mine as late as March 2015. I had been using a 1D ii N and loved the build quality and ergonomics, but I wanted more pixels for larger prints. I also like having twin storage cards, having had both CF and SD cards fail in other cameras. Since the day it arrived it has been my most used camera and has been reliable whether shooting in summer sunshine, or a sub-zero blizzard.    At low-ISO its results are at least as good as from any but the very best current cameras.  Its AF system ...

I admired Canon EOS 1D series since I was in college. After 6 years of hard working, finally I'm able to buy Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II at a decent price. Here in Indonesia, you can afford an excellent condition of 1Ds Mk II around $880 (compared to 1Ds MkIII that still hold around $1,850). Before IDs Mk II, I also used Canon 600D, Nikon D7000, Canon EOS M, and also Canon EOS 5D Mk II. Compared to 5D Mk II, as an amateur I felt that 1Ds Mk II results is better than 5D MkII in term of Image Quality ...

I used this camera as my main system for 9+ years and absolutely loved it. Its one major issue is not having sensor cleaning/ dust removal. (1) Of course, this camera was released before built-in sensor cleaning was a standard feature. (2) But I did have to spend much more time than I wanted in LR cloning out dust. Other than ...

This is still one of the best image quality low ISO cameras ever produced. I also own a 1Ds Mk3 and thought I would sell the Mk2 once I had the Mk3. If I sell one it will not be the Mk2. Problems: None.

I wish I had a different category for "value for money" because out of 5 this is a 6!!!. I purchased this camera for under 900 bucks. It has been used but with build and 65 some odd thousand clicks on it... it still will outlast the brand new 5d mark II cameras and any 40d 50d or 60d. It is built like a tank!!! While the ISO only goes to 3200, with the money I saved I have 70-200mm F2.8 IS, which means I can go two stops slower than a non IS 2.8 or waaaay better than some stock lens ...

Traded my 1DmkIII for this body. So it's used but in mint condition with 11K clicks. It's not quite as versitile as the mkIII but IMHO gives better Image quality...and really, that's why I buy a Pro DSLR. High ISO noise control is better than I thought, about the same as the 5D with better detail...So, better:) 4 FPS is enough for me, I'm very happy and don't miss the mkIII. Best IQ I've seen so far.. Problems: Zero problems 4 on features was compared to the 1DmkIII which is feature packed. 4 ...

I upgraded from the 1Ds to the 1Ds2 and am amazed at the refinements. I purchased a used body and that saved me a lot of money. The newer firewire connection and battery consumption are more reliable than the original 1Ds. The sensor is difficult to get clean but once it's done I shouldn't have to mess with it again unless I shoot in poor conditions. I am amazed at the performance even at one second exposures. I expected high noise and hot pixels and I only got two or three hot pixels. The ...

I must admit, this camera has fullfilled all of my needs. It is a great step up from the 1Ds and it's processing much better. I must say it does a really great job. Problems: None
