This lens has many problems that make it frustrating to use. It is probably the cheapest access to 480mm equivalent reach, but much better options are available from Canon for only slightly more money. It has terrible chromatic aberrations giving thick, vibrant green and purple fringing on high contrast areas. Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III USM
If you want cheap telephoto get the Canon EF-S 55-250 IS. If you have Full Frame and want cheap telephoto, get EF 70-300 IS or Tamron 70-300 VC. Bought this lens a year ago for use on my 60D and found it to be quick, and decent optics. the long end got me some good close shots of wildlife. Using a tripod, I was pleased with how little distortion there was. and fast to focus for sure. But, comparing it to the 55-250 Canon IS I later purchased, and after doing comparison shots, the 75-300 just did not keep up with the clarity and crisper shots that IS can produce.
