I want to get myself a 500mm lens, for wildlife/birds. I'm currently using a Tamron 100-400 on APS-C, and it's just not up to scratch. When I compare the IQ with pictures taken with my 135mm f/2 or 70-200 f/2.8, I'm more often than not disappointed.. I'm not sure however of what to do: 1. Get a used Canon mk1 Pros: "Cheap" option, 2-3K$ Cons: No longer serviced, heavy 2. I have the 500mm F4 L IS Mk 1. After over 10 years of use the screw mechanism that holds the lens hood in place has become detached from the lens hood itself. An easy repair, but does anyone know the size and length of the two machine screws or bolts that hold the screw mechanism in place? They are of the cross head type and are accessed from inside the lens hood. Thanks Tim
