I've had my EOS R for 2 weeks now, and I am a bit concerned by the fact that what I see in the viewfinder and on the screen is jumping significantly the moment I take a picture. Not every time, but 8 out of 10. I first thought this had to do with the IS on the lens, but this happens with the IS off, and also on my lenses without IS. I have no RF lenses, only a number of EF lenses. The jumping is very quick, and the picture may move in one of several directions, not just up, down, right or...

My Canon EF 200/2.8 USM is around 10 years old and recently started overexposing images. After running the same shot through all the f-stops it is clear that the camera exposes correctly at f2.8 and increasingly overexposes the higher the f-stop with f8 already being severely overexposed.  I am also getting occasionally error messages regarding the contacts of the lens but the contacts are clean and not damaged. I have the same issues with this lens on my Canon 80D and older 40D. All my other...

The new 100-400 appears to have razor sharp images suitable for astrophotography at full aperture. But it costs $2100 new, but I can fund it mostly by selling both telephoto lenses. I consider the 100-400L II a nice allrounder (i.e. also for non-astro) and the larger aperture (70mm) compared to the 55mm of the 70-300L is a plus. It is the same as the 200 2.8L, but with a 1:2 'crop factor'. To get small constellations like Crux or Lyra in one field I have to zoom out, with loss of aperture,...

Using an extender (tele converter) has the advantage that the absolute aperture (in mm, not as f/ number) remains the same with the same lens which allows a relative bright f/nubmer without T/C and yet acceptable with T/C. E.g the bright 200mm f/2.8L with T/C results in a yet acceptable 400 f/5.6. A zoom alternative (100-400 f/4.5-5.6L) results in a dim f/5 at 200mm. Why not make a 200-400 f/2.8-f/5.6 which replaces a T/C and a prime lens ? There is a 200-400 lens f/4L, but that is not a...

I have two razor sharp telephoto lenses. But to enhance reach in tele I consider selling both and buying a 70-200L + extender so I can get to 400 f/5.6. The lens costs $2000 and the extender $400. Does the extender really deteriorate the superb quality of the 70-200 2.8L ? --Ricoh KR-5 ... Pentax ME Super ... Canon T90 ... ... ... 40d ... 7d ... 6d

So I bought a 7D MK II the other day and absolutely love this camera.  However my dilema is I only have two lenses.  The Tokina 12-24 F4 II and the Canon 50mm 1.8 II.  I mainly do real estate photography so the 12-24 is my workhorse.  However I am looking to purchase a new lens or lenses to compliment my 7D MK II.  I do have kids and do various other kinds of photography such as portraits and event style photography  There are two roads I could go down.  1.) 12-24 f4; 24-105L F4; 50mm 1.8;...

I am looking to get a new telephoto lens and I was debating between the 70-200 f/4 and the 200mm f/2.8. I am mostly looking to photograph wildlife and maybe do some portraits as well. I don't plan on using this lens a whole bunch, as my 24-70 practically lives on my camera, I just want to have one for my upcoming trip to Alaska. I really like the speed of the 200mm prime, but I don't know how detrimental it would be to not have IS or zoom on a tele lens. Which one do you think would be better...

Gent's, I'm slightly struggling with the focal range my current collection is covering. I "divested" from all my non Canon stuff that covered me from 300-500mm (for good reason). Occasionally I miss the longer range now to shoot animals. I'm now looking at different options. I do have the EF 200L 2.0 mk II, and now I'm considering to either add a 2x EF extender (MK III), or to get the 400L 5.6. Looking at the digital picture comparison the 200 should still be usable at 400mm, still better...

Is a tripod ring/collar needed for this lens when using with a tripod or monopod?  If so, what's a good (non-Canon!) source? --Phil
