My Canon EFS 17-85mm f4-5.6 lens started to have occasional issues last year which became more frequent until it became unusable - basically after clicking the shutter I'd get an error on the display. I followed online advice as to the cause of the problem - most likely a broken ribbon cable and I've attempted to repair it by following videos, but seem to have made it worse since now it won't focus properly. So... I'm now looking to replace this lens but I'm on a limited budget. My camera is...

Hi! I am a strictly amateur photographer with delusions of grander things. I have a Canon 60D and while on vacation, my 5 year old Canon EF-S 17-85mm 1:4-5.6 IS USM literally died. I got the Err 01 error. After trouble shooting, it appears to be the aperture flex cable is the issue. I am having trouble finding a local repair shop in the Houston, TX area. I found a shop that will fix it for $95 plus shipping. Digging around my camera box, I found the standard Canon EF 28-105mm f/4-5.6 USM...

A few years ago, I've purchased the Canon 17-85mm as a replacement to the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my camera. Now it just happens to me that the lens' auto focus function started malfunctioning as it wouldn't focus on subjects and tends to focus in and out repeatedly, never locking on. I've done some research about this issue (My camera body, being the 70D, is perfectly fine. I've tested the auto focus on other lens and they all work) and it turns out I only have 2 choices. Either I...

Just wanted to start off by saying I have very little experience in photography, but I'm a quick learner. I work for a pawn shop, and recently started posting jewelry online. The setup we have is a Canon Rebel XTi (DS126151) with a canon EFS 17-85mm lens. It says macro on the lens but the pictures for our jewelry just isn't coming out sharp enough. Is there a cheap variation, or bang for the buck lens I should buy? or maybe some adapters that would fix my issue?... any help is appreciated....

I also asked this in the Canon 7D 10D-70D forum but as it is lens-related as well a better place might be here. My main question is whether AF adjustment after IR conversion can be done for several lenses. I am about to send in one of my cameras (EOS 20D or 40D) for conversion to infrared (IR) photography, with a >630nm filter. I have the choice between 1. a cheaper option (236€; DSLR AstroTEC) who would do the focus adjustment for one lens (my choice would be the EF-S 17-85mm IS) 2. a more...

I have the choice between 1. a cheaper option (236€; DSLR AstroTEC) who would do the focus adjustment for one lens (my choice would be the EF-S 17-85mm IS) 2. a more expensive option (299€ + 45€ for the filter; Optik Makario) who would do a general adjustment for the range 18-200mm, not just for one lens. They did not even ask to send in one lens, just the body. I wish...

I have a 40D with 17-85 USM lens. The lens is playing up now with hunting and not being able to focus. The question, should I repair it or purchase a Sigma 17-70 2.8/4 DC? What is the view/opinion here please? Thank you in advance. Regards.

I have a 40d with a 17-85mm f 4-5.6 lens. Does it make sense to trade the lens in for the newer 15-85mm f305-5.6 lens?
