A brief background. I am a casual photographer - holidays, outings, trips to museums etc. I never shot in RAW, as when I started in around 2010, RAW processing seemed way too complex. Nowadays, I have Topaz Denoise AI, Sharpen AI and DxO Photolab 5 Elite. About a year ago I revisited using RAW and found that it's very easy to batch process RAW images with next to no intervention, as all the camera/lens data is stored in DxO/Topaz and the adjustments are auto applied. With these apps it's now...
Hi! I recently wrote this following very long message on a Finnish forum (I'm Finnish), but got almost no replies so now I'm trying this forum instead. Since the text is very long, I have partially used Google Translate, sorry if the English isn't 100% correct. ----- Background: My Sony DSC HX400V, about six and a half years old, is about to break and already has so many bugs that it’s hard to shoot. As Sony does not have a service center in Finland, the camera should be sent to Sweden for a...
Hi all New member with a fairly urgent question as this camera is due for uplift/return tomorrow. It has a faint but noticeable whirr from within the body. Its there all the time under all modes even if IS or AF are off. Canon say it shouldn't do this and I can return it, but there's something in the back of my mind saying its normal. I dont want it returned otherwise. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I’ve seen quite a few people here saying the sx50 is far superior to the sx70 with regards to image quality, but the majority of the examples from the sx50 that I can find look pretty bad to me... blurry, chromatic aberration, grainy. Where are the good examples? I already have a DSLR that can take care of most of my photographical needs, but I’m looking to buy a superzoom camera for birding. And if the sx50 is as good as people claim, that would definitely save me some money... but I’m just...
On my brand new SX70, whenever power is on, when the camera is held close to ear, the sound of something running/turning can easily be discerned. I have several times gone over all the menus & turned off everything that appears relevant, to no avail. The sound is much quieter than lens movement. Any suggestions?
I have found that when it comes to video under high zoom (maybe above 30x) autofocus is at best too slow and at worse non-functional. For stills I cannot think of a single case where the focus was not fast enough even at full zoom to get the shot I was looking for. I use C1 C2 presets almost exclusively for stills. For example I was trying to get a video of two Eagles buzzing ducks from about 250 yards. In this case they kept at it for 10 minutes so I got some reasonable video. Typically...

I have 2 questions about the Nikon P950: 1. How many focus points does it have? The Canon SX70 has nine. Others have several times more. I can't find this number anywhere for the Nikon. Does it make much difference? 2. Dynamic range is oddly called "Backlighting". Is it just "off" or "on", or are there several degrees of dynamic range available? My $400 7 year old Fuji has 6 options for dynamic range and it works well.
I have the M5 camera and a good selection of native lenses. I also have the EF-M adaptor (currently unused). The longest reach I have with native is 200mm. I keep toying with the idea of getting something longer for wildlife and sports. I can't decide whether to: Do nothing. Use what I have and crop. Get a Sigma 150-600 contemporary (I could afford new) Get a Canon 100-400 L Mk1 used Get a Canon 100-400 L Mk2 used Get a Canon SX70 camera - giving me a second body and captive lens with a...
