This is the first Canon I have had in my amateur photography career lasting 45 years. I purchased this camera for the 14+ MP and the 35x lens for a trip to So. Africa. I was not disappointed. I used the "P" shooting mode 95% of the time and rarely shot less than 250mm . This camera delivered beyond my expectations. I got great photos of all the "Big 5" ( lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and Cape Buffalo) and more. I also took a lot of HD video which turned out great. The SX30is is relatively ...

I love that this is a relatively compact camera that extends to a massive zoom.  I don't mind carrying it with me wherever and I can still catch a distant bird on it's perch a hundred times better than with my previous compact cameras.  I really like that it has a button that zooms out while I find the subject and then by letting go, it immediately returns to full zoom. I've dropped this camera a couple of times and it dented the metal on the lens, but it still functions perfectly.  I've used ...

I own this one as my first camera. it was is good enough for a beginner like me. when I use this camera for first time, i feel dissatisfied with the quality of the picture, but once I'm figure out how to use the right setting for the right time, for example the ISO, the aperture, white balance, use the tripod, this camera always give good result for me. plus, it has lot of features. yeah, of course the quality of the picture was not comparable to DSLR. but it was not too bad, and some shot ...

I’m writing in reply to a July 15 2011 review, since I disagree with just about every statement made there. Every picture I have taken with my new Canon SX30IS has been in sharp focus, unless I failed to note where the focus area was pointed. Image detail is great, even when pixel-peeping at 100%, especially at ISO200 or below. Zoom range is great, and the only drop-off in quality comes when you exceed 35x (840mm equivalent) and go into the “digital zoom” realm. Never do that, on any camera - ...

PROS -Great zoom. -Macro setting AMAZING- can put and flower or object AGAINST the lens and it focuses perfectly. -GREAT low light setting. -packed with several great settings and options. -built in wide angle is handy. -Easy to use. -Very sharp (sometimes not with auto setting. Only fuzzy with auto when shooting indoors I have found.) -HD video better than most camcorders in its price range. Just because of its amazing video the price of the camera should be at least $500. CONS Macro won't ...

I have used above average Nikon and Canon DSLR cameras and I bought this for holiday travel when I dont want to carry heavy and expensive gear around. I am quite impressed by the quality of still pictures and videos produced by this camera. The lens is amazing in its ability to capture true color. Still pictures even in low light situations turn out quite sharp. Although the interval between two still pictures at the highest resolution can test my patience now and then, it is worth the wait. ...
