I bought this camera to replace my 5 years old Sony DSC-H5. Canon brand, 35x optical zoom and other specs looked very good. But the image quaility, when compared to my old DSC-H5 disappointed me very much. Maybe my expectations were too high, i dont know, but the pictures taken with my old camera are much more clear, crisp and clean. Some other reviewer wrote "...the photos look like taken by using digital zoom, not optical zoom..." that is exactly how i felt too. I thought may be 14mp is too ...

I’m writing in reply to a July 15 2011 review, since I disagree with just about every statement made there. Every picture I have taken with my new Canon SX30IS has been in sharp focus, unless I failed to note where the focus area was pointed. Image detail is great, even when pixel-peeping at 100%, especially at ISO200 or below. Zoom range is great, and the only drop-off in quality comes when you exceed 35x (840mm equivalent) and go into the “digital zoom” realm. Never do that, on any camera - ...

In 1972 armed with a Zeiss-Ikon point and shoot camera and new wife, I set out for Albuquerque, New Mexico, from Connecticut. I was awed by the scenery, but humbled by my photography. The biggest problem was those magnificent landscaoes (mountain forests, lakes and majesty) just turned out to be sooooo very small in the prints back from the processor. That was nearly 40 years ago and since then I've owned numerous cameras, lenses, taken photography courses even at Columbia Graduate School of ...

PROS -Great zoom. -Macro setting AMAZING- can put and flower or object AGAINST the lens and it focuses perfectly. -GREAT low light setting. -packed with several great settings and options. -built in wide angle is handy. -Easy to use. -Very sharp (sometimes not with auto setting. Only fuzzy with auto when shooting indoors I have found.) -HD video better than most camcorders in its price range. Just because of its amazing video the price of the camera should be at least $500. CONS Macro won't ...

This camera is a big dissapiontment. The automode is out of control. The pictures look like they are the product of a digital zoom not optical. There is just no detail. It is back to my sx10is. The manual is not included, you are using your own paper and ink to print it. 194 pages no less! The lens hood is not included, needed and expensive to buy! At first I wondered if I scored a lemon but talking to people they all agree that the picture quality just is not there. The movie mode skips ...

I have used above average Nikon and Canon DSLR cameras and I bought this for holiday travel when I dont want to carry heavy and expensive gear around. I am quite impressed by the quality of still pictures and videos produced by this camera. The lens is amazing in its ability to capture true color. Still pictures even in low light situations turn out quite sharp. Although the interval between two still pictures at the highest resolution can test my patience now and then, it is worth the wait. ...

I purchased this camera for it's long lens. When it works it is good. But many times when you try to zoom lens will hunt back to wide angle. Focusing in Macro mode can be a pain! Review button is in wrong place you keep hitting it while holding camera! Very disapointed! Picture quality only fair to good! I am only an amateur but have used many digital camers and I do not like this one at all!

I bought this camera to replace a drowned SX10IS. The auto feature is absolutely useless as it has a mind of its own and is very difficult to override. Even in aV mode, the lens freezes and requires turning off/on. The picture quality is not as good and the buttons on the body are too sensitive. The Zoombrowser software is very wonky and always shows error messages that Canon says is OK. Fortunately my previous camera is now working so I will go back to it and the old software. What an ...
