I just got a Nikon 1 J5 with 10-100mm all-in-one lens. It's great for traveling and being outdoors in daytime and cloudy days. Much better than my old compact camera, it offers much more detail and better image quality than the old Canon PowerShot SX280 HS ( dead ) or the Nikon Coolpix AW130 ( my rugged watersports camera ). But the J5 is not too great for low-light. I want to use it for indoors such as coffee cafe, group photo within the crowded NYC restaurants, art galleries, independent...

I have an old Canon PowerShot SX280HS which I brought in Oct 2010. It's dying from abuse and overuse after one and half year. Because I used the camera in one of the waterproof soft plastic case, the zoom lens was hitting against the case and it caused the zooming len's gears to jam. So the camera reports lens error and shuts down after few minutes of use everytime. The auto-orientation sensor must also be broken since it does not know which way up is, therefore I have to re-orient the photos...

Hello, I just bought the Canon Powershot SX280HS, I was extremely pleased at first but came to learn of the battery indicator problem within shooting a 3 minute clip. When looking online the only solution i could find was to update my firmware but that wouldn't be possible because i supposedly already have it installed as mine has a newer serial number. I just do not know what to do? the camera takes excellent pictures and i got it on sale at a great price, i don't want to take it back to...
Looking at getting a refurb canon for my wife and I. It has to be relatively easy for her to use and compact enough to be pocketable/pursable. Mainly this will be for indoor/outdoor photos which will be blown up no more than 8x10 (usually more 4x6) Here are options S100 (refurb) - $100 S110 (refurb/new) $150/180 SX280 (Refurb) - $108 Thanks!
I currently have a Canon SX280 HS which takes very good pictures and videos, and gets high marks in most reviews I've read. It's also compact enough to fit in my pants pocket, which is very convenient. I use Lightroom and my own scripts I've written to process photos, and use Photoshop when necessary (Which is not very often). I'm looking for advice on upgrading my camera to something which takes better photos and videos, but is still point and shoot. I don't want to spend more time...

Is any of these three camera's much better than the other two? Would you recommend one over the others? Are they all three pretty much equal? Low noise with higher ISO levels is important. Quick operation. Overall IQ. Good grip. A little bit 'foolproof'. (Good auto mode) Thanks! :-) Edit: Or of course a different travel zoom (around/starting with 15-20x zoom) that's compact. Or maybe a little bit more grip.

Hi there! I'm planning to buy a new travel zoom camera, and I'm in doubt between Canon SX700 HS and Panasonic Lumix ZS 40. I've read a lot of reviews and watched a lot of comparative videos, and I'm thinking about getting the SX-700 HS (mainly because this one is less expensive). My main goal is to have a powerful travel zoom camera to take photo stills, but I'm also very interested in video capability. My main concern is about the known battery issue that the SX-280 HS has when shooting...
Looking for advice on purchasing a new camera. My first digital camera was a Camedia D560. Loved the photos I got with it, but once the kids came along it was too slow between photos to keep up with them. My next one was Kodak Z712. I was very happy with the response time on it, but had to manually set the ISO to 100 in order for the photos to not be grainy. Was not as happy with the overall quality of the photos compared to the Olympus, but needed the faster response time for the kids....

Hi, my first post here, though heavy reader. I see the Canon PowerShot sx280 HS is available for $188. So is it worth spending $349 to get the newer, so-called successor sx700? My thoughts after much research: GPS For me, GPS (on the outgoing sx280, and missing on the newer sx700) would be nice to have, though not a deal breaker. Zoom The biggest attraction for the upgrade for me is the extra zoom - 30x (on the new sx700) instead of 20x (sx280). Is the extra zoom really worth it or even...
