Sorry for another “which DSLR to get” question, but I’ve read up a lot and ultimately my decision comes down to about 4-5 factors which I can’t know how much will matter unless I got to try out each camera for a month. So I’m hoping people who HAVE used either camera could weigh in on how important each of these factors really should be in my decision-making. Or if you have unrelated advice, it’s also welcome! I have been largely happy with my (point and shoot) Canon PowerShot SX230 HS. With...
Hi everyone. My first camera was a used Nikon D80 with 18-55 and 55-300 which I bought because was the best offer in shop... After one year I've bought a Canon SX230 HS (12mpx, 14x zoom, 1/2.3" bsi sensor) because i needed a great zoom in a compact body for my travels. Sometime ago i bought a Sony RX100 because my two cameras works bad in low light and are too slow with autofocus: its 20mpx, 1" sensor, 24-100 mm f 1,8-4,8 zoom and 6400 ISO (up to 25600) is so wonderful... Canon is a great...
Hi. I'm replacing my Canon Powershot SX230 HS and wondered if anybody had a recommendation. I mainly use the camera for documenting my walks and probably shoot 15-20 mins of video as well - so the video component is fairly important. I also have a DSLR but want to stick with a fairly small point-and-shoot that still has some of the manual control I have with the SX230. Grateful for any suggestions.
Hey everyone! I've had my Canon PowerShot SX230 HS for about two years, and I love it, it's perfect for me. My only issue is the video file format - is there any way to change it? Currently it records all video in .MOV and while that's fine for playback, I'm constantly having issues when editing in Adobe Premiere. Of course I can run the video through a converter before editing, but that adds an extra step - which is quite annoying, especially when time is of the essence. If anyone knows a...
Hi there, This summer I was playing around with a CMOS digital camera (Canon PowerShot SX220 HS) and wanted to get some basic photos of Venus and some stars.Using the 12x zoom and getting some unfocused images I was able to get photos for 1 - Venus , 2 - Arcturus , 3 - Vega . I was puzzled as to the colors (originally I though in 2 I was looking at Jupiter) and went to check Sky Map to identify the object I had photographed and investigate what the colors I got could mean. After checking that...
Hi, I am new to this excellent forum. I have just purchased this camera and used it on holiday in Turkey, its a great little camera perfect for travel. The stills photography and HD video is good even in low light conditions with the exception that there is a perceptable juddering of the picture when panning in video. Is this the camera (24fps video) or the grade of the memory card? I am using a SanDisk Ultra 64GB class 10 SDXC memory card with 30MB/s data transfer rate. Thanks for your replies.

Can I, or how can I, take single frame action shots (ie., fast action sports) with the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS without resorting to the high speed movie mode? Must I set the shutter speed manually? There isn't a "Action" option on the Mode Dial as there is with my [older] Canon point and shoot.
Hello all. After taking a number of pics, say on a camping trip etc., and after downloading these pics to the home computer, I would then like to remove them ALL from the camera. It would appear as though the "Erase Image' function allows me to selectively remove only one pic at a time. How can I delete ALL images from the SD card? Thanks in advance.
