Lasted only 1.5 years. LCD broke and now does not work at all. Good, yet sometimes inconsistant picuture quality. Problems: Positives Generally good picture quality although can be inconsistant Very portable - fits in your pocket with ease Software is user friendly Lots of options to change settings Negatives LCD broke with minimal pressure (in my pocket) No battery indicator and little warning before battery failure Came with very low capacity data card (32 megs?) Did not last very long - ...

Love the size of this camera ... this is my 4th digital camera and by far the easiest to take with me everywhere and thus get more shots than I would otherwise. Problems: Camera has twice now failed with the lens locking in the open position. First time Canon fixed free of charge and very promptly and I am just sending if off with fingers crossed for a repeat. Case and LCD scratches if you even look at it wrong. However, still like the camera due to image size and convienence.

Satisfied with image quality and features after 6 months of use Problems: 1 week ago LCD stopped working and appears cracked even though I keep it in a thick protective case. Just sent it back to Canon, will see how they handle this since it appears to be a common problem

No perfect performance After 4 weeks of using this camera I’m a bit disappointed. During my holiday the camera was broken; the lens did not retract. Whatever I tried to fix it, it was broken &^%!@^$!#@ But that is not the only remark I have. (1) The picture is not sharp, and (2) the white balance is not perfect. Many pictures were too bright. (3) You can’t see how many minutes you have left with your battery this implicates that you have to buy an extra battery. You can’t asses how long your ...

I generally buy for a reason (as opposed to buying for the sake of being an early adopter). I bought a G3 several years ago because I wanted an off body flash. I bought this SD500 because I wanted something that I could carry everywhere to take grab shots. I opted for the top of this line (7.1 megapixels) because I want to be able to severely crop without losing detail. Finally, I selected this over several alternatives that had no viewfinders because I want the extra stability of holding a ...

Could be a great camera if it worked. Problems: I have had the SD500 for less than one week. After reading reviews of LCD problems, cracked, black blobs etc, I figured that it was probably a very limited problem. Wrong, except that my problems are different. Camera has been treated with kid gloves since day one. Stored in a padded case. Never abused. After 57 pictures total the LCD went black except for the icons showing the settings. LCD works fine for reviewing images already on the card so ...

tried this camera as an upgrade from my s500. had it for about 2 weeks and returned it. the image quality just didn't seem as good as my s500 (I know that most people review the sd500 as much better, but I just found the PF (purple fringing) too excessive. there was also general softness (more than my s500) and there was a focus problem on the left side of the frame - like the sensor wasn't 100% parallel to the lens plane. just guessing here, but others have reported this as well. there ...

I have always liked Canons I have had the s100, s50 and I tried the sd500. It was average to me, after trying my sisters Sony p200 I returned the canon and got a p200. Much better all around camera, speed, contrast, saturation and I saved a $100.

Quick and fun to use. Time will tell how it fares with my Canon S40 Problems: I too noticed sound proplems in the video mode. There is an unacceptable constant pitch in the recording. Is there a fix and how does Canon plan to correct this as it is to the point of returning the camera

Iam a bit disapointed with this camera. Build is very nice, performance great, but iam not pleased with picture quality. Macro pictures are very good, but average point at shoot pictures are not crisp and clear. I have encountered a lot of photos that are not realy sharp, and sometimes expossure also seems bad. Flash seem unable to power down on close ups, giving overexposed pictures. Furthermore flash sometimes produces uneven light. Another issue is purple fringing on some pictures. Problems:
