Hi all, This is something I've been wondering about for some time now, each time I'm looking at the specs for a new camera. I usually do a feature search and set the max aperture at F2.8, but fewer and fewer results come out (at least with Canon). Is it because the sensors are more sensitive now? Meaning that in the same shooting conditions, one will get the same results (ISO, speed) with a new F3.5 as with an old F2.7? Or do the new cameras have better IS and rely more on it? After a lot of research I decided to upgrade from a Canon Elph 300 HS to a PowerShot G16. So far I like the quality of the images I am getting from it, but there is one glaring annoyance. When the camera is in fully automatic mode (granted, I probably won't shoot in that mode all that often, but this is still something that is bothering me) there is no way to turn the Continuous Autofocus off.
