Costruction is excellent, never seen a compact like this...beautiful! Solid and very well made...I love it! Features...with many customization possibilities, an excellent ergonomy ( almost everything is easy, and fast, to control without going throught menu...) is impossible to no give five star to this little beauty! Image Quality. This is a critical point. It's a compact with a 1/1,8" tiny sensor....with TEN MP... Digic III is very good...but it's not holy...so if you're going beyond 200 ...

Whether this camera works for you or not really depends on how you use it and what you use it for. I don't like the bulk of DSLR so have only used the G5, G6, and G7. I use it for portrait travel photography and product shots. For portrait photog I enjoy the nice F2-F3 lens of the G5 and G6 and miss that. It doesn't compare with a prime lens on dslr of course but it was the best of the compact bunch to be sure. The same can't be said of the G7. The big lens of the G5 and G6 is great for ...

I have been extremely pleased with this camera. I am a very experienced photographer and have used more cameras than I can remember, both film and digital. I bought the G7 for lightweight travel (25+ countries in 18 months) after my DSLR and Canon A710 IS were stolen mid-trip. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this camera, and many of the complaints I hear from other people seem to have more to do with unrealistic expectations than the quality of the camera. Several people have ...

Excellent camera and a suitable replacement for a DSLR in some situations. I disagree with a recent reviewer who said this camera was bulky. It's less than half the size of most DSLR bodies and has a 35-200 lens built in. Bulky? Picture quality is excellent most of the time, but I do notice some distortion at 35mm (not terrible). Exposure is good about 99% of the time but it does occasionally overexpose in bright backlight (which seems counterintuitive). Some minor fringing in strong ...

Great camera with very good image quality, image stabilizer an an excellent user interface. If it had more wideangle and RAW format, it would be perfect.

I have waited to post an opinion on this camera until I spent some time using it. This camera produces good images (for a compact) under good lighting conditions, but so do many other compacts available for less money, and more importantly, less bulk. (I may as well carry an SLR with me) I really have tried to like this camera but I'm going to trade it in for something smaller.

i have regretted choosing this camera over the sony v-3, even though that one is 2 years old already. sometimes the camera doesn't autofocus properly, the menu and controls are weirdly placed and un-intuitive, you have to choose options each time you change the mode (like from automatic to manual & back to automatic) you have to re-set your settings from scratch. the worst case si that whenever you go to automatic you have to re-turn the flash off if you don't want automatic flash, instead ...

An excellent camera. Have a read of the review by Budberry about their G7 and photography too - says it all. I've been involved in photography for 30 years and held off getting a digital until they were "good enough" to make me feel happy about leaving behind my Nikon FM. Like Budberry says, when you're looking at getting a digital, remember that this camera in terms of workable images from high ISO settings, flexible metering options, image stabilisation, compact design, user interface, ...

This is the most disappointing Canon I've had, and I returned it. Ergonomics are bad, as there is no place to hold onto it, just a slippery surface. Image quality is very poor for a camera at this price level. Low contrast detail is badly blurred, and there is serious noise in shadow areas in high contrast scenes even at ISO 80. The lens itself is not very sharp at the telephoto end, so you get serious corner softness.

Construction: 4.5 - It lacks the handle that virtually all Canon cameras support now. I sometimes feel nervous holding it. However, the larger LCD and quick navigation make it a pleasure to work with. The retro look adds a coolness factor too. Features: 4.5 - They could have added time lapse recording like the Nikon P5000, which opens up a lot of possibilities. The ND filter and hot shoe flash however makes up for it. The high resolution movie mode is absolutely invaluable. Picture browsing ...
