I am thinking of buying the D7200 given the price since the introduction of the D7500. I use Faststone as my image processor for my Pentax MX-1 and Pentax  K-5. I want to double check that Faststone will handle NEF raw files. Also is it worth buying the camera body with the nikkor 18-140 lens as a kit? I primarily do macro work so will get Tamron's latest 90 2.8 macro offering. Thanks for your comments. Glen

I currently use Faststone (version 5.1) to process my images from my Pentax MX-1 and K-5.  How do I go about installing the latest version of Faststone without losing the hundreds of images that I have processed using the older version? And because I may buy Nikon's D7200 since the price is so attractive given the introduction of the D7500, I want to double check that Faststone will be able to process NEF raw files. Thanks for your input. Glen

I've been using Pentax since 2008 more or less and so far I've owned six models (K10, K20, K7, K5 and K3 plus the MX1). I recently sold my K3 and bought a KP,  which required some research, reading forums, reviews, etc. It's funny because even when the camera has good reviews and excellent IQ, Pentax users seem to dislike it. I mean, there are many negative comments regarding the size and capability, but even when I haven't received the camera yet, the test images I see online are superb. My...

Well I finaly did it. I got a K1 for a good price last week. So far really like it. Lot more functions than used to with the old K5 so a lot to learn. Seems to have about 4 ways to select any one feature! I like the "switch to crop mode" feature; it has stopped me worrying about "losing" the extra reach of the 1.5x crop sensor for wildlife. The K1 works well with 100mm macro and my 120mm 400mm Sigma. Unfortunately it does not like my 24-70mm F2.8 DG Sigma standard zoom lens and will not...

Hello all I am a new K1 user and the software of my K1 is 1.42. 1.) when I have the Status display off, is there any chance to switch it easily on ? With my K5 I simple press the Info button and via 2x pressing the Info button the Status display is off. With the K1 I have run across the Info-menus. 2.) Is this normal that my K1 show in TAv for the ISO only AUTO when I switch on a flash ? I mean I know that the TAv mode use the ISO in auto, but I need the value the camera just use now. Is...

I have one of the early K5 models which I love but am thinking about an upgrade.  The things I am considering the upgrade for are to get an improved sensor with better higher iso performance (even though I am pretty happy with K5 to 3200 and have even got a few shots as high as 51200).  The other thing would be to get improved autofocus! Lastly should I be tempted to jump into the full frame club or stick to APS-C? I have sigma FF lenses at 24-70mm and 120-400mm as well as pentax 100mm macro...

My path with Pentax has been: K100D, great little camera but back then I didn't take this that serious, with primes and raw and post processing.  K5 - awesome, loved it, still have it, still works, kinda worn K3-II - similar to K5, needs to be taken to repairs KP - just bought and is great, takes awesome pics, but feels slightly downgrade-ish due to smaller battery and slightly weaker burst in RAW. LOVE the controls.   Will probably buy a K1 to see what FF is all about, but maybe there's a...

I presently own a DSLR Pentax K5 with a 55-300 lens. It is getting to the projected end of it's life. Have a KR backup, but thinking of replacing that with a super zoom camera.  My photography is mostly from kayak, bicycle, or hiking. Birds in flight and wildlife. Would I be sacrificing much clarity by going to one of these cameras and what would be recommended for my needs ( or not recommended ) FZ300 sounds appealing, but small sensor may eliminate it. BTW the Pentax suffers in the...
