Hello all, I'm a wildlife researcher working in Madagascar and I'm going over for my second field season in a month. I currently have a Pentax K30 camera and three lenses: A Pentax DA 300mm f/4 for lemur shots A Tamron 90mm f/2.8 for macro shots (insects and herps) A (little-used) Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 for landscape shots I'm pretty sure that I can do rather well with this set-up, but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for lenses. I do think I want to focus more on...

I just bought a brand new HD DA21 f3.2 limited to use on my K30with firmware 1.05 (=latest version, which is announced by Pentax-Ricoh for better AF with HD limited lenses). I usually shoot JPEG or RAW+JPEG, and I use LR5 for PP. The lens works fine and I think I will like it, but, wether in LR5 or in Silkypix developer studio (the latest version of Ricoh-Pentax bundled software), the exif data of pictures show exif version (0230), firmware version, focal length and aperture and other exif...

Hello to you all, My wife and I are planning a trip to India in February 2016. We love India, and it will be my fourth trip in this wonderful country, but it will be our first journey with some wildlife photography in mind. We’ll visit North India : Rajhastan, Taj Mahal, and we plan to spend some days in national parks : 4-5 days in Corbett for sure, and maybe Keoladeo with birds in mind or Ranthambore for tigers. What kind of lenses would you advise us to take ? We already have bodies :...
Sorry, I know I've asked about this sort of thing in the past. But I keep waiting and waiting, and I'm finding these tempting offers for lenses, but NOT the exact one that I "think" I should get.... The background: I was looking for a 70-200 F2.8 lens, which I will use primarily for my kids' outdoor sports - tennis and Ultimate Frisbee. I was shooting a K30, with a Sigma 18-250, mostly because it's HSM, i.e., my only lens with the motor in the lens; my Pentax 55-300 and Sigma 50-500 are both...
I posted a thread on potn but no luck over there, so hopefully someone can help me here :D I bought a Manfrotto 190x kit tripod and felt it is not sturdy enough so I returned it. I'm considering Sirui K30X for head and now i need to choose a tripod leg that goes well with them. Weight is not a huge issue unless it goes super heavy ( ~5lb should be okay). Currently looking at Induro AT 213 , AT 313, Sirui n2004x, and n3004x. Are they gonna do okay with the Sirui K30X? Anyone have some...

Sorry for the long post. Thanks to those who read it, and thanks in advance for any input, suggestions, etc. OK, first, I'm all excited! I bought a K-3 today! I should get it by Monday! But I have a question: I currently shoot with a K-30. I bought a K-3 in part because of the improved AF performance. I own only ONE lens with the motor built into the lens itself: The Sigma 18-250 OS HSM. I like to shoot sports, but only when my kids are involved. (I'm not a "serious" sports shooter.) I shoot...

I am a K-30 and K-M user and am thinking of upgrading. The K-S2 seems to be a feasible choice but the current price of the K-5 iis is quite attractive compared to the K-S2. I've heard that the K-5 IIs has better sharpness than the K-30 due to the lacking of the low pass filter. Also high ISO performance is better as well. I've held the K-5 original before and have to say the overall construction of the body is way better than the K-30, but heavier as well. The K-S2 obviously has all the...
